    New bike advice please

I've only recently got my full licence so the thought of an MT-09 scares the **** out of me, but I can vouch for the MT-07 being an awesome machine. Massive amounts of torque and short gearing = brilliant fun.

    The Vega Review Thread.

What I don't really understand is that specs wise, Vega 64 kills the 1080. Why do raw performance numbers (12,665 GFLOPS vs 8,228 GFLOPS) not translate into better FPS? Is it all down to a lack of optimisation?

    Worth Upgrading now??

I was thinking about upgrading to Vega 56 from an RX 480 8GB, seeing as I can currently sell it for more than I paid... Opinions?

    The Vega Review Thread.

Let me start buy saying that in my current rig I have a Ryzen 1700 with an RX480 so I'm not an Intel/Nvidia fanboy. With that said, the Vega 64 launch is trash. The card is not only slower than a 1080 and uses more power, it's also more expensive. Anyone trying to justify that it's a good buy...

VEGA IS FINALLY HERE, ITS IN STOCK ALONG WITH SOME EPIC BUNDLES & FREESYNC DEALS!!

I had one in my shopping basket at £450 and then thought better of it. Didn't think it was a great deal even at that price. They're playing catch up with Nvidia again, competing with last year's cards but with worse efficiency and barely better prices (if you can even find one at MSRP). I've got...

VEGA IS FINALLY HERE, ITS IN STOCK ALONG WITH SOME EPIC BUNDLES & FREESYNC DEALS!!

The MSRP for the Vega 64 card inc VAT is about £470 so £450 was a good price. £550 is silly money though. Might as well just buy a GTX 1080. Much better card for not much more cash.

VEGA IS FINALLY HERE, ITS IN STOCK ALONG WITH SOME EPIC BUNDLES & FREESYNC DEALS!!

Meh. I'll stick with my rubbish RX 480 that I have to downclock to stop from crashing and switch back to Nvidia come their next release. Compared to the Ryzen release I'm finding the Vega release a bit of a disappointment. Hot, loud, power hungry, not particularly fast or good value.

    Asus RX480 Dual problems

I've downclocked mine to 1255MHz which is near the 'stock' boost frequency for an RX480 and seems to have solved the crashing issues. I can live with it for the £180 I paid but I'm not too impressed. Options seem to be RMA and pay more for a better card or make peace with fact that this one is...

    New Motherboard

I wouldn't bother with the Asus B350-F Strix as the X370 Prime is only around £20 more expensive now and has better power circuitry (6+2 vs 4+2). The Prime uses the same VRM's as the ROG Crosshair and Asrock Taichi, just less of them. The Strix does look a lot nicer though but I'm guessing it...

    i5 2500K upgrade

I upgraded from a 2500K @ 4.2GHz to a Ryzen 1700 @ 3.75GHz and honestly, unless you're doing content creation you won't notice much of a difference. It's nice to have 8 cores/16 threads but with Threadripper coming out with 16/32 and am not so sure Ryzen 7 is as 'future proof' as it first...

*** AMD "Zen" thread (inc AM4/APU discussion) ***

I bought the 1700 and I'm happy with it. £300 for 16 threads is an absolute bargain and I've got it running at 3.8GHz on all cores at 1.325 Vcore. Not really a huge upgrade from my 2500K @4.2GHz in gaming but it annihilates it everywhere else. Slightly better single threaded performance but...

I'm guessing that's with an 1800X? My 1700 will do 3.8GHz at 1.35Vcore. Haven't pushed it further as I've only got an entry level liquid cooler (Corsair H55). Imagine I'd need 1.4V+ for 4GHz though.

My Asus Prime Pro X-370 doesn't seem too stable with Corsair Vengeance LPX 3000 yet. I've got the single rank Hynix stuff. Haven't tried the new bios yet but I've heard of people having mixed results and some not able to boot at speeds they were achieving before.

    Asus RX480 Dual problems

It's just a bad batch of cards I think. Low binned chips that don't run at the advertised clock speeds yet somehow made it through quality control.

Asus Prime X-370 pro and Corsair Vengeance LPX 3000Mhz CAS 15. It's single rank 2x8GB but Ryzen seems to really hate hynix memory.

I've given up trying to OC at the moment. I can run 3.8GHz with 2133MHz memory or 3.0GHz with 2933MHz memory. For whatever reason, Ryzen won't let me have my cake and eat it. I'm beginning to think I would have gotten more out of a 7700K :/

*** Official Ryzen Owners Thread ***

I wouldn't go much past 1.3 Vcore on the wraith as it will be hitting 80C when heavily loaded. If you're lucky you might be able to get 3.7GHz on all cores at that voltage. I'm running my 1700 stock at the moment though as bumping the ram up to 2933MHz seems to make cold booting extremely hit...

Yeah, the Ryzen pins are so thin though I was really worried about them breaking from metal fatigue.
