It's certainly devious, but it's going on - of the ~140 tasks I have, the vast majority are resends as a result of several users aborting multiple tasks.
You can update a project's preferences by going to the Projects tab within BOINC Manager, clicking on the appropriate project and clicking 'Update' - no need to close and restart anything :)
Have switched to Einstein to become a footsoldier, although because I'm only able to do CPU tasks I'll be more akin to a very slow footsoldier that has gammy legs and vastly inferior weaponry - or, to put it another way, I'm a footsoldier bringing a club with a nail in it to a gun fight.
I'm in! Not been involved in a competition for a long time, so am looking forward to this :)
Looking at the teams that have signed up to the competition, BOINCstats suggests we'll finish a very comfortable second behind SETI.Germany. If we can add a few users to the cause then first place is...
It's safe to say that the optimised app has definitely kicked in...
The stock app takes about an hour, whereas the optimised one is getting through tasks at a ridiculous rate; some are done in less than a minute and a half, with the longest only taking around six minutes to do. Their server(s)...
Interesting project! Have signed my machine up to it, but being a lowly Q9550 without a usable GPU I've no idea how much use it'll prove to be. Am running the two tasks I initially downloaded with the stock app, but have since downloaded and unzipped the optimised app so hopefully all other...
Casual A@H cruncher here. I had no idea optimised apps had been released, many thanks for pointing that out! The sse3 app has cut my run times down from ~2.5 hours to <40mins on my trusty Q9550 (oc'd to 3400), so they've obviously gone to town on the optimisations :D
Yep, all's well chez tross thanks :)
The pulsar thingummywhatsit is simply a search carried out by einstein@home; it's nowt new, and judging by the fact you've got einstein credits I'm sure you'll have had a dabble at it at some point yourself ;)
Bad luck with the 780 Tony :(
Actually, your rigs seem to be in a constant state of build/rebuild. I'd love to know how many crunchers you've owned and what age the longest-serving rig's been since you joined the team :D
Oh, and I'm leaving the little green men in peace for the time being and...
Welcome back Meridian. I also hope you've landed a good job, as being on the dole myself in the not-too-distant past I know they have you applying for anything just so they can put a few ticks in boxes.
It's just electrical noise coming from the CPU - the same happens to me whenever I run SETI on mine. Some GPUs emit a high-pitched squeal when under stress as well. It's irritating when it comes through your headphones, but it's completely harmless and nothing to worry about - I've run some...
No no no; if you enjoy spanky you're not allowed on it.
Glad to have you back Mr TBag :). I'll be doing the news - as promised to your good self - after the new year.
Go on then, I'm in :). Only four threads though I'm afraid, and I'll have to break off at some point as I have a load of correlizer work to finish before the 19th.
