Could you not sell the 980ti's and get a 2070 Super for similar money? Then you haven't spent out but have a decent powered modern card as a stop gap, until the next gen come out. Then sell the 2070.

Try the ASL G1504. It's a single slot low profile 1050ti. It's a nice little card, but expensive at @£180.

I have been looking for similar myself, but as you say the prices of the good ones are silly money. I was looking at 1155 boards. There are new 1151 boards available new for £65. Did you say you have a processor or ram already? Big ask to get all 3 for less than £150 I would say.

Agree that pricing is awful. The main benefits of the 1060/RX580 would be 6/8GB of memory. Definitely not good value though.

I was just comparing Passmark benchmarks which put the 1060 at almost double the score of the 7950, but maybe that's not a good yardstick.

Why not look at a 1060 or an RX580? Then its'only' @£250. A Gainward 1060 6GB card can be had for £225.

Ok, old school overclocking is not as straight forward as today, and I would appreciate any help. Can the ram be clocked independently? Mine is 2000MHz, but shows up at 800MHz (so I assume 1600MHz). Can I adjust this on it's own. Sorry for my ineptitude.
