Yeah that might be a good idea. Yeah that is what i have done, now it has taken me to the initial setup and is asking me to assign my
drives. Didn't want to go any further just in case i make things worse lol.
New to unraid, ive had it installed for about a month now on a microserver Gen8.
Was all running fine. i had it installed from a USB. Anyway Some how the USB has
gone missing and when i reset my power i seem to have lost everything. had about 4tb
of data on my drives. Ive tried to start again...
Does anyone know if there is a way to save some energy using unraid and a microserver ? My energy used to be around £1 a day, since i have got my server up and running it is now £2.50 per day..?
got no room for it in my enclose tbh, yeah thats what i was thinking. One of my drives that i am putting in the server is currently being used as external storage, i think it is formatted to FAT32. Will i need to back the data up and re format through unraid or will i be able to just literally...
okay great thanks for advise will probably use 1 parity drive, i have a 3tb external drive is there a good way to utilise that with the server or is it a bad idea to keep an external drive running 24/7
Cool, I'm gonna put the server on a timer so it shuts down at night when not in use, am i better off getting enterprise/NAS drive or do you think standard
drive would be okay?
Best Hard drives For the Gen8 Microserver ? presuming each bay takes 4tb so looking at the Seagate Ironwolf?? and also is it worth having an SSD? thanks
Haha yeah, have gone a bit off track from original ideas but had to when realized they're not really possible.
im going to go with a micro server with FreeNAS/Unraid. Starting to look for a good deal now.
im no expert im just trying to make sure i get the right server for the job like i said all i want to do with it is store movies/music and access it easy with no problems
if you guys think the 150 is the best for that i will go for it, just been reading good things about the play's, certified 4k...
Would be open to doing that as long as i could get one that would physically fit in my cabinet as its only 300mm deep, only thing is i wouldnt have a clue where to start, you no of any decent step by step guides or anything ??
Im gonna scrap the idea of building to be honest, seems like its gonna be too much agro. Think im just gonna have to lump it on a Synogogy Rackstation RS816. Anyone had any hands on with one? Just mainly gonna be used for storing and playing Movies and music, which will be accessed though a Mac...
hmmm yeah will have to think of another way round it. Don't want to spend fortunes but i have a 9u data cabinet with space, wanted to try and get something to do the job that would go in there but everything rack mounted seems very expensive, guessing the cheapest way to do that is to
strip...
