Hey did you see the 3950x ? It's on AM4! This gives a lot more choices for motherboards

We are suffering from guest random crashes, a few times a week. I performed a MemTest86 test on my machine and I could get some errors, but just a few. Can we trust MemTest86 on a guest or we really should run it on the host to make sure one of the sticks is faulty ? I was also thinking of...

Taichi is a good board with more features than some others. But regarding stability, I'll let the others speak. In my situation, we have 2 machines on the ASUS Prime board and it proved high reliability being the host of 10 virtual machines. We however do not use any pass through.

Thanks for your inputs. We are going to stay with our current settings. This server still rocks !

At work my boss decided to increase the capacity of the server by adding another 64GB of RAM (total 128). Now we can't boot with RAM at 3200, it reverts back to 2133 MHz. This is GSkill 3200 MHz CL14 F4-3200C14Q-64GTZ. In order to be able to run at 3200, we need to set the EFI to be D.O.C.P...

Does anybody here has NVMe or optane SSD plugged in the prime x399 board? With one SSD I had the HDD LED blinking constantly and now with 2 the HDD LED is always at ON, pretty much useless now.

    ssd race to bottom alarming

I never wanted TLC but now everybody in on boat with TLC and they're able to put some impressive numbers with nVME drives on TLC, so I'm jumping in. But for my OS I prefer having 3DxPoint memory ;)

    Evo 850 suddenly not detected.

At work I installed one of the cheapest SSD I could get several years ago (OCZ Onyx). It survived until last year, after replacing the secondary hard drive (1 TB) twice. They do not all die prematurely.

    M.2 Intel vs Samsung

If you're talking about the Intel 760p, yes it is slower than the Samsung one. The Intel ones however should be pretty reliable. Unless you're running specific tasks, you will probably not notice the difference between the Samsung and the Intel one. I installed an Intel 900p (optane, not flash...

Shopping for nVME SSD for storage

Thanks but it will be an additional 75 CAD$. 1 TB nVME prices have really plummeted to the point that 1 TB is cheaper than 2x500GB, except for the more popular brands (Intel, Samsung).

Oh the others that might be interesting are the EX920, MP510 and XPG SX8200 pro. I don't want QLC yet.

Shopping for nVME SSD for storage

Hello, I'm 100% SSD on my computer since 2012. I've caught a few deals here and there and kept my 500GB SATA SSD for several years for storage and upgraded a few times my main SSD for OS. I've waited and waited to see some important improvements on SSD to replace my olds 500 GB SSD but price...

I really doubt those SSD that are lightly used will get to 70 degrees. We'll first check the S.M.A.R.T. data in BIOS and if it says the same, we will use a finger to check. If they are indeed hot we will add a fan as the ambient temperature is already controlled in our server room.

Hi guys ! How is it doing ? Are you going to try Threadripper 2 at 32 cores ? hehe ! Our machine has been really good at work and people are really appreciative because of the performance upgrade. It's been running steady 24/7 since April. Last Friday 2 VMs crashed, one only crashed once and...
