Aye, hopefully it's a software/driver issue that can be fixed - and not because of increased TDP etc.
The battery life in that review makes it the same as a gaming brick. So hardly usable as a normal laptop or multimedia laptop.
I'm wondering if it's better just to go for an eGPU. I don't need...
Also, crazy specs, but £4.5k for the top spec!

Geez
The other one is more reasonable as the RAM and SSD are doubled...
This review says the battery life is halved over the previous 15X, also it runs hotter:
https://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/gigabyte-aero-15-x9,5684.html
That battery life drop is seriously off putting!
Was waiting for the graphics card refresh, hmm.
That wouldn't be possible unless you wanted a dark patch when looking at your screen where the logo is.
Obviously it can't be RGB customisable or independently dimable - as it's the screen backlight.
Do you expect them to have a sheet between the screen backlight and the logo, followed by...
Well you lose colour accuracy going for the 1080p screen option over 4k.
I don't personally think 144Hz makes much off a difference - but I plan to use it docked mostly anyway.
For battery life 1080p is better for using out and about.
But 4k is cool for watching 4k content in bed I imagine...
I believe that's from the backlight - so no way to turn it off.
To test adjust the brightness of your monitor and see if the logo changes with it.
Getting a skin for it would probably be the best way to address that.
Personally I'd find it odd owning this laptop and not wanting to run at least 32GB.
If I were to look further at RAM it'd be to find a way to run 64GB heh.
I'm running 16GB on my old laptop at the moment and it's not stable (thanks Chrome). I probably should stop running hundreds of tabs.
Highly likely I'd say. It's an issue with the switches. See the notebookreview forum thread.
You'll probably get it back with fewer issues.
The keyboard hasn't changed for the new aero 15x it seems.
It's a design flaw. They should have changed the keyboard. As the switches means you have to...
Having talked on live chat to the retailer above I'd never use them anyway.
I asked them about dead pixels and they said if there are any below Gigabyte's policy you'd have to return the £2k laptop at your own cost within 14 days as a change of mind.
Gigabyte's pixel policy seems to be a full...
@Atom80 Can you let us know how often Gigabyte refresh their laptops?
As The GTX 11 series is expected in June/July, with the laptop variants shortly after I believe.
So the GTX 1170 for example should be avaiable for Gigabyte to offer in the Aero 15X around the time of the year the Aero 15...
Yeah just watched that coincidentally.
What concerns me are some comments made by others about the cooling.
Wasn't aware of the new MSI offering in the MSI GS65
That apparently has much better cooling (more fans and heat pipes)
I was put off by the previous MSI offering - the MSI GS63 -...
Thanks for the updates and that's a sound decision. Glad Gigabyte chose a single stick of RAM and single 512GB SSD vs 2 x 256GB SSDs.
It really does simplify upgrades and make them more cost effective.
I'll probably buy another 16GB DIMM right away. Can you recommend a model/vendor?
Can keep...
Yeah not that bothered by something changeable like an OS. Not sure Windows 10 Pro is a big deal, and if it were can always pay for an upgrade.
Looks like this will get the 11 series GTX card down the line, according to rumours.
I guess you can always wait, and now seems like a decent time -...
Cheers
Yes one DIMM is a nice and uncommon choice.
Those that want to max it out to 32GB will benefit from dual channel, and those that don't likely don't care.
I max out 16GB routinely. Perhaps it's not really addressable properly by my laptop
Currently using 10GB with just browsers, one...
Blimey that's pricey/expensive
I was expecting it to be around £2k for some reason - in line with the old pricing.
@Atom80 is that one 16GB DIMM, or 2 x 8GB?
I'd want to upgrade to 32GB, so 2 x 8GB would suck really.
I suppose I could cope with 512GB of storage at the start and add a second...
By the way, is there a UK service centre?
I assume there's a 2 year warranty - the legal requirement, but we have to ship it to the service centre at our cost?
But it's sent back free of charge?
For those having to do this, how was the process?
It's a lot of dollar to spend on a laptop, so...
Solid as a brick - dangerous use of words - don't tempt fate!
Looking forward to finding out what the changes/specs will be.
I think I know the processor and specs really - so just hoping for a better screen, keyboard and trackpad.
Basically the interface - I/O
Really important really. I'll...
Actually the new model should be out in mid April - at least in the US - it seems.
Various sources saying that
"You can research more on Core i7-8750H and it is rated at 45W TDP. You should see the next gen Aero 15X by mid of April and GIGABYTE said they will finalize the price and specs...
It's like the uplights on the outside of a building for ambience. How are overclockers with dead pixels, backlight blead and returns in general?
Are returns free if you think the quality isn't up to scratch, regardless of manufacturer dead pixel policy etc?
E.g. if I bought this from...
Any news of availability?
Keen to get this laptop I think, although it is expensive.
Would personally have preferred if the battery were a little smaller (saving some weight), giving room for 2.5" SSD.
Mostly because I currently have 1TB Samsung 850 Pro 2.5" SSD I'd prefer to put inside as a...
