We router is connected to BT phoneline, its an old building. The WiFi on the router is turned off so I only use the Asus. EE Hub basically acts as another switch.

I'd have to disagree on this one, spending £1k to get access to buying MSRP cards would not have any significant impact on their profit. Especially where their mark up are over 100%. So they only need 1GPU to breakeven which to me seems wrong.

That's true, this will really depend on what the guy needs in terms of storage. i would hands down get a m.2 500gb+ for that budget as I store most of my stuff on the NAS.
