It's great they're still refreshing the AM4 - although obviously driven by the fact they think there are sales in it. With 5800x3ds around £260 currently, they need to be less than the rrp $249 which usually translates to the same in £. I suppose in a long-lived platform there is a significant...
Is there anything out now gameplay-wise that's actually worth that kind of investment in gfx cards? I'm not seeing anything really that wouldn't be just as good with gfx turned down - or anything that looks so good I'm desperate to play it tbh.
So what are you doing mainly in the game? Walking around doing stuff? Sounds like the space bit is underwhelming which sounds disappointing. What’s wrong with the space combat and is this a big part of the game? Are people using a joystick?
#shudders. With the x-com games one felt some of the complexity on pc had been stripped out for consoles (from predecessors a decade older) so I hope people can confirm this isn’t the case here. The very pc-ish d&d nerdy complexity around combat etc and having to very careful consider exactly...
Am looking forward to this. Was debating whether to go through 1 & 2 again but that’s a lot of hours! Is it similar to first two? How big is the party when fully manned?
Thanks I was unaware of that and will take a look. I liked the originals when they first came out - it was perfection at the time and was a brilliant refinement of rebelstar and laser squad. Personally I have a real soft spot for X-Com Apocalypse despite its flaws and somewhat unfinished nature...
X-Com Enemy Unknown 7/10
Finally played this one having owned it for ages. Love the old ones and was always put off this due to the ‘consoley’ nature of it. I thought combat was reasonably good although the alien ‘pods’ felt contrived and for me was unrealistic. The base stuff was rubbish...
Thing is if you’ve got a 1xxx 2xxx 3xxx series with a lower budget and don’t want a to spring £300 for a 5800 x3d it’s a very tempting offering. AMD recognising life in old platforms is actually excellent for the cpu market for consumers not necessarily wanting to be forced to the next platform...
Just watched the nexus review - amazing that it's largely identical to the 3060ti, and as they say the **60ti name comes with it a suggestion of decent performance/price which they've just put in the bin. Ah well...
6950xt gfx isn't a bad option for £150 less than a 7900xt - last gen but as fast in most things - can be got at £568-£599 currently. For games as said above 58003dx is way to go.
I think the concern is with these things if channels do something and it has a lot of success you can overdo or overegg it a bit - it's only natural to try to chase the numbers a bit although GN generally is one of the better ones. Has anyone on this forum found anything at all?
It's perfectly fine as an upgrade from several generations ago and there's not enormous amounts of alternatives to be sure. I think people are disappointed it's no step forward from prev generation for what was on release the same price more or less as the 3080 which it is basically the same as...
The first system I built was an AMD Athlon64 4000+ which was a rebadged FX-53. It was such a great chip I remember that system running so well. Socket 939! I pored for hours over the system build guide printout first before starting.
