    The Huw Edwards situation

Agree with nearly all of this, you'll never catch me defending Boris. Yes news readers are not at the top of the list (MPs sounds like a good place to start) but I'd say they're still near the top.

    The Huw Edwards situation

People in the public eye are de facto role models for everyone else, damn right the expectations for their behaviour are higher than simply being legal. If you want to do questionable stuff (especially of a sexual nature) don't be famous.

    The Huw Edwards situation

Lots of people debating whether he broke the law, and debating whether it is relevant. When considering relevancy, we need to have a point of reference, or a question to which a piece of information may or may not be relevant. Huw allegedly solicited sexual images from another person...

    The Huw Edwards situation

That depends. If you're of similar age then no. If you're a very rich publicly recognisable figure in their 60s, hell yes it does. Add to that sexual harassment of young female co-workers, definitely a nonce. As I said before, legal ≠ morally acceptable. I'm not saying he should be locked...

What the hell is going on in this country regarding dentistry?

There was a recently retired dental nurse interviewed on the radio this morning, she said something similar. But she also added that a small portion of the blame should be on dentists for being greedy. I would like to think that a majority of healthcare professionals are there to help people...

    The Huw Edwards situation

I consider myself a leftie, I also consider them both nonces who deserve everything they get, including getting dragged by the media. Andrew especially should be in jail.

    The Huw Edwards situation

I notice he conveniently neglected to mention sexual harassment of subordinate co-workers. He seems to assume (as do several posters in this thread) that all of Huw's sexual escapades occurred with another consenting adult, an assumption that has no basis in evidence. In fact evidence to the...

Nearly spit my drink everywhere when you referred to the media you mentioned as 'highbrow' lol. You're being sarcastic I assume?

Another cinema chain going down the pan

Not ultimate, but it is one of the main factors. Their loss. That is also a bit of an exaggeration. I sit 5-6ft from a 55" screen which I find ideal. That's a perspective thing, you unconsciously compare the size of the faces/heads on-screen with the silhouettes of the heads of the people...

Another cinema chain going down the pan

This is a good point. We even refer to cinema as 'the big screen' but really the size is irrelevant, it's the viewing angle (how many degrees of your field of view are filled with screen) that matters. I can get the same viewing angle as I would in a cinema just by sitting close to a normal...

Another cinema chain going down the pan

I haven't been to a cinema since I started accruing a decent home cinema setup, that was 15+ years ago. It's too expensive, there's barely any decent new movies to watch, and I don't like the way they equalise the sound in cinemas. They're all the same, way too much mids and upper bass, not...

Do you use a DNS, does it have any benefits ?

Post #31 explains the basics of DNS very well. There's usually a compromise between privacy and speed. Your ISP's DNS or google's DNS (both unencrypted) are likely to be the fastest but also the least private. DNS servers in Nordic countries (they tend to have stronger laws regarding export...

    GTA Saved Data

PCgamingwiki is a really helpful website, among other things it tells you exactly where a given game stores its save files and settings files, super useful for times like this. https://www.pcgamingwiki.com/wiki/Grand_Theft_Auto_V#Save_game_data_location

What theme / style are you using on the OcUK forums?

I see what you mean, fair point. I don't feel the same way, the overall brightness of the whole screen is what bothers me, not just the brightness of the few pixels I'm focussed on, but I understand what you're getting at now, thanks for the reply. Stylus is a really useful extension for...

What theme / style are you using on the OcUK forums?

Everyone has their preference, no issues with that. But how is white text on black more retina burning than black text on white? On any given page, the majority of the pixels are going to be background, the minority will be text, right? So how does having the majority of pixels black and...

What theme / style are you using on the OcUK forums?

They're all easy-ish on the eyes (white text on dark-ish shades) so I stick with classic blue. What annoys me are forums/websites with black text on bright backgrounds. Fortunately there are numerous browser extensions to fix such sites if they don't offer a dark mode or similar.

What words / phrases don't you like?

Biannual = twice per year = every 6 months Biennial = once every two years = every other year = every 24 months One can blame people for confusing or conflating these, but one cannot blame the language for being ambiguous because it isn't. They may sound similar but that's irrelevant, there...

What words / phrases don't you like?

That's a welsh thing. Sounds normal-ish when said in a welsh accent, otherwise it sounds really out of place to me. My wife speaks welsh and has welsh family so we spend a bit of time there and you hear stuff like this all the time in the valleys.
