    Bst should be kept permanently.

The Greenwich meridian is already too far East to use as a basis for time for most of the British Isles. So why people keep demanding we live to French time, I have no idea. I blame the Normans. PS. that means, no, I don't want to see permanent BST (or any BST for that matter). If you want...

Run Ethernet to upstairs home office

They look a bit pricey to me. For example: https://www.comms-express.com/products/1x-rj45-cat6-module-in-singlegang-faceplate/ Seem quite a bit cheaper, unless I'm missing something about the ones you found. Of course you might not like the profile, but you can buy their flat faceplates and...

How do you sanitize a USB Drive?

If I follow your screenshots correctly, only a virtual CD drive from the stick shows up in Windows? I have a vague recollection that some sticks only show their actual storage after a low-level USB command (which the manufacturer's Windows software will send). I think there's a mode switch...

    Prime 95 worker stopingbwith error

Do all workers stop with an error or just one? I think if it's only one, the other workers will carry on until explicitly stopped (Test menu/Stop).

Anyone got an Ergonomic mouse ?

True. There's also the older MX Vertical, which is a very similar shape, I think. I would say the Lift is for small-medium hands and the MX Vertical for medium-large hands. But as with all things mice, how you hold it will also be a factor.

Anyone got an Ergonomic mouse ?

Another vote for the Logitech Lift. Also as a result of wrist pain, which the Lift helped with; along with a couple of changes to desk and chair (mainly making sure the weight of my arm was on my elbow on the chair arm and that I was keeping my wrist straight). Only thing I find with the lift...

*** Official Ubiquiti Discussion Thread ***

Don't forget the matching patch cables! https://techspecs.ui.com/unifi/accessories/uacc-cable-patch-el#marketing-images Interesting mix of 1 & 2.5GbE and POE+ and POE++ ports though.

    Win 95 System.drv error

I'm not sure about that - I think you can; but it's possible I'm thinking of newer Windows. I would suggest, given the possibility of disk and/or filesystem corruption, you ought to format the C: drive anyway; so back up what you can.

    Win 95 System.drv error

My memory isn't what it was, but my feeling is that will be down to filesystem corruption. Possibly caused by a dying hard disk or maybe just not shuting down properly before turning off the PC. You could try a CHKDSK in the DOS command prompt, but that's unlikely to fix things as you'll be...

    Memory Management

I didn't realise you weren't interested in possible reasons why you might have seen the behaviour you did, but rather you were just hoping to reinforce your unfounded assertion that linux memory management is naff. Sorry, I'll leave you to it.

    Memory Management

If you are using hugepages for the VMs, you've effectively told the memory manager not to swap the VMs out. Memory for other processes, not using hugepages, will get paged out; but if you fill physical memory with hugepages, there will be nowhere for those other processes to get paged back in...

    Memory Management

What sort of VMs? KVM/QEMU, or? What are you using to manage them? Are you using hugepages at all? Dedicated hugepages can't be swapped for sure; I'm not sure about transparent, but would supect they can't either. Dedicated hugepages have to be pre-allocated, so you'd know if you were using...

    VOIP questions

I can answer this one: Yes, A&A give you the details you need to configure your equipment - you don't need to buy it from them. There is also a page on their Wiki (looks like submitted by a customer) covering that range: https://support.aa.net.uk/VoIP_Phones_-_Grandstream_HT8xx

Net zero could push energy bills up by £120 a year

It's an entirely pedantic point but it will all end up as heat eventually. That's a fundemental part of physics and is inescapable. I've no idea how the topic arrived here, but in terms of your challenge of how the energy can be lost without moving the water, how about this as a solution: The...

Elite Dangerous : Controls Setup Frustrations

The control setup in Elite is something that lots of people complain about. There was a revision to the UI with Odyssey (although I'm not sure it was an improvement). Are you playing the base game (Horizons) or Odyssey? I only got a HOTAS after playing for a while, so already had some idea...

New to AMD - AGESA & BIOS

As I understand it, the AGESA is just AMD's part of the BIOS. I've never seen anywhere to separately update it - the motherboard manufacturer will include newer versions of the AGESA with newer versions of their BIOS. My general rule with BIOS updates is unless there's a fix you need, don't...

    Prescription Computer Glasses

New PC build (mainboard) - can i just swap the old SSD with OS, or do i need to format&clean instal Windows?

It used to be the case that you absolutely had to reinstall Windows when making major hardware changes. You can generally get away without doing so now, and Windows will automatically install the new devices. Some devices will still need you to manually install the drivers for them - make sure...
