    Kitchen options

I've ended up designing 4 DIY Kitchens in the last few years for family and myself and all have turned out great. Our carpenter that fitted 3 of them used to be a Howdens guy but absolutely loves DIY Kitchens now. We've had the odd mark/scratch on delivery and a couple where we needed extra bits...

    Spec me a kitchen!

I've put in 3 DIY Kitchens (the largest was about £18k of just units!) in the last 2 years and they've all been great. I've actually found them to be pretty good at fixing delivery issues, or things that got missed with most things being onsite in a few days. I think the longest we had to wait...

Spec me a suitcase for hold luggage

I now only use Away luggage (https://www.awaytravel.com/uk/en). Travel a lot for work (I've done 24 flights in the last 3 months) and always check baggage in and Away are one of the few brands I've found that survives the abuse; and even when things do break (I've broken zips and things trying...

Solar panels and battery - any real world reccomendations?

Just had our 15kw G99 Export request approved by UKPN (in about 2 weeks which was slightly surprising!). Based on the suggestions here though we're pausing the order for the SolarEdge/Tesla and looking at the Victron options (but based on our 15kw G99 Export limit now!).

Solar panels and battery - any real world reccomendations?

Having had a look at the Victron stuff that people recommended it does look interesting, and definitely appeals to my more DIY nature! Are there any good forums to do some research on the different components; and does anyone know any decent Victron installers in the South-east...

Solar panels and battery - any real world reccomendations?

We have some shading from a couple of vent pipes and the Starlink satellite dish. We also have the issue of Seagulls liking to sit on the top of the roof and their poop, which is not an insignificant problem  (we're on the beach basically). The panels are all South facing. The arrays been...

Solar panels and battery - any real world reccomendations?

The former, but we're also massive energy users with two EVs (and two EV chargers!) with a large roof on the south coast so we decided to take the plunge. For us we've already got whole-house AC, multiple electric ovens/hobs, electric towel radiators and plenty of electrical devices so decided...

Solar panels and battery - any real world reccomendations?

Out of interest what batteries are people recommending other than the Tesla Powerwall? Currently waiting for G99 sign-off (or G100 export limitation depending on whats the DNO will allow!) for a 10kw SolarEdge Single Phase PV install (with about 14-15kw of panels) together with a Powerwall 2...

**** The Official Samsung Galaxy S21 Family Thread ****

Anyone noticed any issues with the Android 12/One UI4 update? Outlook mobile, Microsoft Authenticator and other apps keep crashing/wont open for me since the update.

    Smartwatch Thread (news/apps/updates)

Well I've just pre-ordered the Silver Watch 4 Classic 46mm LTE. Been waiting for this to make my first foray into Smart Watches, so hope it works well!

    Spec me a CCTV System

Cheers @WJA96 - very helpful! I work in IT, so very comfortable with something like Blue Iris, but also value systems that "just work" and suspect I won't want to do much tinkering so I'll probably go down the NVR route.

    Spec me a CCTV System

Looking at setting up roughly 6 external cameras around the house with a new NVR. Are the HikVision ColourVu's worth it? We don't have street lighting around here, but there will be various other security lights around the property. I was looking at Ubiquiti G4 Pro cameras, but think I'll get...

    Anyone a magistrate?

My claim was that it's a deterrent to someone committing a further crime while they're on a suspended sentence. The fact that in similar cohorts those with a suspended sentence were 7% (as in the 2015 study) less likely to re-offend than those given an immediate custodial sentence backs this up...

    Anyone a magistrate?

Yes: All of the above is taken directly from "The impact of short custodial sentences, community orders and suspended sentence orders on re-offending" published by the Ministry of Justice in 2015. You can read it here If you want a more recent study then: All taken from "The impact of...

    Anyone a magistrate?

Yes 99.9999999% of all Criminal cases start in the Magistrates courts. There are some exceptions around Murders, but in most cases even if a Magistrate or District Judge can't hear the case they will still decide bail and relevant bail conditions. Yes, you have 3 types of case; Summary Only...

    Anyone a magistrate?

I'm not quite sure what you're getting at linking to these cases. Every single case you linked to involved someone being given a custodial sentence. I don't think you quite understand that a suspended prison sentence IS a prison sentence in the legal system. When sentencing a Judge or Magistrate...

    Anyone a magistrate?

So I don't know the facts of that case, but it does appear that his CBO is for antisocial behaviour. The question is would you send someone to jail for being drunk and affecting no one other than themselves? I'd likely place his breach into category C3 within the guidelines -...

    Anyone a magistrate?

This is why I became a magistrate - I don't fit the standard stereotype, and believe I bring a different set of life experiences to any proceedings. What I would say here is that it's not the legal advisor that advises on sentence but on points of law that need to be considered. Sentance is...

    BMW and M Power Owners

Real shame that the LCI 6GT is being dropped in the UK, and it appears that it won't be getting a new version after this. Absolutely love my 6GT but it appears that there were only 230ish sold in the UK over the last 3 years so can understand why it's been withdrawn! Looks like I'm going to have...
