XBOX Gamepass Ultimate conversion is back for £1

Yea, also no longer in that growth phase (maybe even declining paying subs if the alleged numbers are true). Maybe eventually the conversion rate will be phased out. Rewards and the initial GPU offering was such a unique selling point that worked well. For me now, the Series X is a legacy...

What Linux Operating Systems do you like?

Yea there definitely is a lot of chatter around the atomic versions. Tbh I didn't even know what it was at first but for a secondary machine like this it seems to work very well, so far.

Will we ever get a rival to the PC?

No, because of consolidation. Microsoft, Apple & Google all fighting over the PC & mobile markets. I do think the Raspberry Pi is the closest thing we'll see to a modern day equivalent; modern RISC hardware, custom hardware/tinkering (i.e. official touchscreen, hats etc.) and it's own OS (or...

What Linux Operating Systems do you like?

4 and bit months on from that post and still using Fedora 39 on both machines. However I did have an issue with Fedora 39 on the Lenovo Duet 3i (very basic n4020 Celeron powered Surface-alike machine) where somewhere around Kernal 6.7.x it would start crashing soon after startup. Usually when...

Yea I meant the browser page :D. For some reason I thought that page would automatically pick up the joypad's FW version. So all good. V4.0 FW installed.

    Mister FPGA

Need to update to check it out. Still not ordered new memory yet. Have read that the main developer is moving on from the N64 core to pursue other projects. So that might slow up development although there are issues with DDR3 latency. Albeit the N64 will still be the most accurate way to play...

3rd Party Switch Pro Controller Recommendations

Tried installed the new V4.0 FW tonight/this morning and still have the odd V1.0.23 version number in the Gamepadla browser window (after the test). That said I have checked and definitely have the new 3.2 onwards functionality with 4 different lighting modes on 'set button' + dpad left; as...

3rd Party Switch Pro Controller Recommendations

I've got V3.1 in my Downloads folder still and remember plugging the joypad in and moving the file over and everything. So probably likely I did something silly, or there's a small chance the early FW has an old version number. Later on tonight I'll sit down with it and update it (thanks for the...

OK done. I didn't upload to the cloud but on my Win 11 desktop get similar numbers to yourself. Is is coming up as a much older F/W although I definitely remember installing V3.1 but clearly need to re-look at that. EDIT: Just noticed I can't spell Gulikit properly. Doh!

Oops I'm on the 3.1 FW, so clearly need to update. Thank you for the heads-up. I'm getting 449.xx hz when running the XInputTest_1000 samples. Which sounds like 500hz but how are you checking this? Btw did the GamePadTester as got this, which is different from when I first tested the KK3.

Is the console going to become extinct or evolve?

Although not part of your conversation I did; post #30 above. The latest data shows 5x growth in 2023 for consoles vs PC. Or a third bigger by revenue. Source included. I like GI.biz but why is Nintendo ignored? The reasons given in that article don't make sense. Nintendo have been the number...

They definitely got pulled apart in reviews to trying to say mechanical buttons. To me they feel 'tighter' than the Xbox One/Series controller, maybe less actuation. Very comparable to the feel of 8bitdo Pro 2 buttons, but not as quite as large and more concave.

No it doesn't - similar to the older KK2 from what I remember. The Cyclone would be better in that regards. The usp/reasons to get the KK3 is going to be its Xbox contoller ergonomics, paddles, trigger stops or you need android support. Maybe their vibration tech too. I haven't used the dpad...

Sounds good. RE: the HD rumble, good point. I suppose there is also NFC and gyro which may be another point if you use those (something I don't so don't really think about). The Gulikit KK3 Max has 3 levels of sensitivity with their 'maglev' rumble, which was noisy for me on the highest one...

Is the console going to become extinct or evolve?

Good point, I did a quick search on this and the report that tends to get re-reported often is NewZoo's yearly reports. At least without paying money for another service to produce their estimates. This has the console market growing faster than PC in 2023 (and 2022). That said if you look at...

Remembering the SEGA Saturn, and the big-wig execs that started the real console fanboy wars (!)

Owned a few Sega Saturn's over the years; but both were bought either secondhand or after its time. I've recently been spending time with the Saturn core on MiSTer and there are some wonderful gems on the system. I do need to spend some time with that new rework of Castlevania: Symphony of the...

Is the console going to become extinct or evolve?

Although I agree PC and its library working is a plus, I can't think of any delisted game on any platform; Steam, XBLA, PSN that doesn't remain in my library. Although I'm sure there are some anomalies. Generally when a game is removed from sale it remains available for re-download. For...

GameSir seem to have very well calibration sticks out of the box. Similar things were said in the reviews for the G7 SEs when they hit last year. I've personally been running 4 controllers including the official Switch Pro controller and all work well enough. But of the third-party offerings...

Is the console going to become extinct or evolve?

TLDR; With walled gardens being everywhere I don't think they are going anywhere just yet. Growth did go over to mobile (as predicted) and PC. But the '30%' is too valuable and that isn't being given-up anytime soon. Right now there is a perfect storm of consolidation, post-pandemic slow down...
