First year of uni, me and my new gf went to a house party of my flatmate's gf. Being skint students, all we could afford was a bottle each of the nastiest, cheapest vodka in the shop. Our budget didn't stretch to mixers, so I grabbed a bottle of cordial from the flat.
My first error was...
Congrats on the nomination, one question, what do doctors (let alone consultants) know about correct infection control/aseptic technique procedures? :p
It is entirely possible for her to be transferred to, and treated in, the UK - and most doctors would accept a transfer if there was clinical need. For example we recently accepted a (american with british husband) patient from a bahrain hospital who had a stroke over there, back to the uk for...
this
The only exception would be if the person had seen the GP or another doctor for that problem recently prior to the dates in question, and at review they were still suffering from the problems - in that case it may be possible to write a sick note confirming illness during the period in...
On my elective in Uganda I found myself at midnight in a town about 20 miles from where I was staying and with no transport back. I paid a 'taxi' (basically the only guy in the town with his own car, and I use the term car loosely, this thing had no doors or windscreen), which I had to share...
They can refer you for tests and see you with the results, or they can use the history +/- examination alone, and save the need for further investigations. Plus they can usually go blood tests, etc (and some can do x-rays) which may diagnose the problem
Numbness in the hand could be from any number of causes, e.g. you go to see a neurologist - he/she thinks it's a musculoskeletal problem and refers you to that specialist - you see the orthopod who thinks it's probably a benign syndrome, not requiring surgery and discharges you...
Most GPs won't have a problem with 2 complaints, provided it's not going to significantly affect subsequent appointments (contrary to Nix's experience, and tbh mate I'd write a letter to the practice manager, particularly if you tried to make another appointment to discuss the second prob and...
No to all routinely
edit: hepB and rabies vaccinations can be gotten from GPs/travel clinics/etc if required. Anthrax vaccine is rarely used outside of the military
I thought the Data Protection Act means that if you formally request a copy from your GP (unless it would harm your health to do so) they are obliged to give you the info - though can charge admin costs.
As a vague guide the GPs I have worked at have charged between £5 and £50 for GP records...
Jokester: re CPR only resus, I'd say those figures look like a pretty good estimate, though I'm not aware of any concrete evidence either way - usually because there will be some other intervention (ie drugs or defib), or because cardiac arrest wasn't confirmed before commencing CPR, so they...
It's combined data i believe
edit: and I don't recall what measure of survivability was measured (ie ROSC, survival to hospital admission or discharge, etc)
I didn't when first taught at school, especially the whole "are you ok, can you hear me" bit, though at my current workplace we have SimMan - who basically opens his mouth, blinks, etc and interacts with you - which is a combination of hilariously bizarre and eerily spooky
I have just come off a rotation on our hospital's arrest team*, and at the last arrest I attended the orthopaedic registrar (a hulking great lump of bloke), had managed to break the patient's ribs and puncture a lung before we got there
*basically a group of acute medics and...
Bit OTT, the GP has given the OP a diagnosis and cure - unless the OP asked for dietry help and got no advice, most doctors will not have an exhausive list off the top of their heads, and so would do exactly what the rest of us would do, ie google
Surely if you find a testicular lump you must realise that eventually it will be inevitable that a doctor will have to play with your balls - so I doubt it would make that great a difference
And whilst MRI may be great for definitive diagnosis, ultrasound remains a very valuable, cheap and...
