    E46 M3 - SMG?

I have a 2002 M3 with SMG. How I sum it up to people who ask: SMG can be a pig at slow speed and when it's cold, especially if the clutch wear hasn't been adapted for. I've had a few crap experiences putting my foot down to take a gap on a roundabout just as it decides to drop into 1st...

Get me in a fast car again...

BBR will remap 3s and 6s to 290hp/330ft.lbs for £550 inc removal of torque and speed limiters. Stock internals. Not cheap for a remap, but considering how cheap the Mazdas are compared to the competition they do represent a huge performance to price ratio. Trip computer was 28mpg for a while...

Get me in a fast car again...

Both have LSDs and I barely notice the torque steer. The only time it becomes an issue is if you push it hard on a poor road surface. The 3 MPS is unbelievably quick (~400nm torque) and can be mapped fairly cheaply to 290ps+. Older ones are cheap to buy owing to the relative obscurity and...

    New Car: Mazda 1.6TS

Is this normal for a sport? I've got a late 07 3 MPS (110PS more than) and on the trip comp its lifetime average is 28.7mpg with a heavy right foot.

Offered a Mazda 6 MPS, should I take it?

Just saw another MPS which was in great condition if not for some rust in the engine bay. I stupidly didn't get a photo, but it was around the front suspension bolts, pretty much everything within the red circles in this photo was covered with rust: I haven't seen this on any other MPS or...

Offered a Mazda 6 MPS, should I take it?

Thanks for the comments, chaps. At least I know to watch out for chavved up 106s now, especially if an integral part of the engine head is ever kaput... Had 20 minutes behind the wheel this afternoon and thoroughly enjoyed it. Fairly obvious turbo lag, especially considering the only quick...

Offered a Mazda 6 MPS, should I take it?

Just over 7k for a mint condition one, 1 owner and under 30k miles. They seem to be quite rare, especially in the South; does anyone have any experience with them? Seems like a lot of car for the money. I know they're pretty poor for fuel consumption, are the quoted figures realistic?

    Nissan Leaf: Future or Failure?

Can't we just lay these stupid Clarksonesque comments to rest? The advantages of switching to electric cars even with a predominately coal-based grid are enormous. When you consider the constant and increasing shift to clean power you've got no leg to stand on. The biggest problem with EVs...

Is anyone using CalDAV for Windows clients?

I've just set up an internal CalDAV server for my company, who were previously using a single Google Calendar account for scheduling. I'm pleased with the server, it does everything we want including serving attachments, which Google Cal doesn't do. Everyone in the company is on Linux or...

    I HATE OS4!!!

Get rid of your 3G. I just sent my 2 year old, dented 3G back to O2 and got £175 for it, which made the iPhone 4 a lot easier on the wallet. I got so frustrated with how slow everything was even on 3.1, OS4 made it unbearable. A 3GS or 4 is a massive upgrade in usability.

*** The all new iPhone 4 thread - Keep all iPhone 4 stuff in here ***

Stores used up their allocation yesterday, according to the phone salesman I spoke to. Of the stores that actually have phone outlets, each one had <20 units available. Waiting to hear whether my order has gone through. Getting Tesco Value service.

Successfully bought an iPhone 4 contract from Tesco Mobile over the phone at 8:30 this morning after a 30min queue. Order confirmation, mobile number and IMEI allocated, next day delivery. According to some people on MacRumors, Tesco have cocked up and are cancelling orders made this morning...

*** The all new iPhone 4 thread - Keep all iPhone 4 stuff in here ***

Anyone else stuck listening to Vivaldi on a Tesco mobile's loop? Called at 7:55, not open, 7:56, not open, 7:57 entering a queue. Been in it ever since. Just tried to call from my mobile whilst land line is in the queue and it's engaged! Must be overwhelmed.

    iOS 4.0 has been released!

iPhone 3G 16GB here, just updated to iOS 4 and now the earpiece speaker is unreliable. First call I made with it was fine, second had no audio through earpiece at all (tried 3 or 4 times) but worked fine with handsfree mode, then third call it worked intermittently.

    Big Bike Thread

Absolutely. Solid as concrete and light as a feather. Definitely recommended, although their sizing is a little odd. That's a 51cm frame and my cyclefit session sized me up as a 55.5 in traditional BB to top tube dimensions.

Mac Book Pro/Mac Pro SSD and TRIM

It essentially allows the OS to tell the SSD when certain blocks are no longer in use, such as when a file has been deleted. A normal OS delete operation is indistinguishable from a file write to an SSD otherwise. By knowing which blocks are not in use, the SSD can more effectively wear-level...
