Aldi's Kamado goes on sale again this weekend. Did anyone buy one last year?

    Which Electric Pressure cooker?

I bought some plain ribs from Costco, marinaded them in Chinese 5 spice powder from the Chinese supermarket for a couple of hours then bunged them in the instant pot for I think it was 25 mins, about 7-10 mins to get to pressure. They honestly were better than any ribs I've ever made. 35 mins...

    Which Electric Pressure cooker?

I got the Instant Pot Duo and it is superb. I think it's 6 L and cooks ample amounts of beef stew for two of us with leftovers for lunch the next day using the smallest amount of liquid. Could easily cope with more ingredients to make a bigger batch. Ribs have been a revelation in it as has...

Siliconslave's how to make espresso thread

I’ve got one of these too. And a grinder/chemex/aero press/clever dripper. I’ve not used the grinder since buying it. The brews it makes are not quite as good as the grinder/other combos but they are good enough when using average quality beans. If you want to experience the flavour nuances of...

    What watch do you wear?

Thinking of getting a Tissot Ballade Powermatic 80 COSC as I really like the looks of it and can get one for just under £500. Any thoughts or anyone got one? YSMN

Siliconslave's how to make espresso thread

i'm currently on Lavazza Rosso in my Delonghi and they make a very drinkable Americano. They're similar in quality to a chain high street coffee place like Costa etc and super cheap in Costco. Hasbean etc are great for a treat but the Lavazza just produce consistent results for circa £10 a kilo.

Siliconslave's how to make espresso thread

Why can't they go in B2C machine? My Delonghi says only coated beans shouldn't be used. The description says they aren't coated and as a Costco member I may well get some next time I'm in, if they're suitable?

Siliconslave's how to make espresso thread

So I got the Delonghi 4200S for Christmas. It produces fantastic coffee! Very VERY pleased with it and the simplicity of a bean to cup makes it a doddle to brew an Americano. Hasbean beans obviously taste wondrous out of it but pains me to say the Lavazza Rosso beans are actually very drinkable...

    Big ol' Burger Comparison Thread

Gotta double up at Shake Shack and add bacon. Double shack burger with bacon is pretty good as it goes for fast burgers. I prefer it to In and Out Burger but the price of In and Out is about a third of Shake Shack. Double Double Animal Style is my go to In and Out order. Five Guys is not worthy...

Siliconslave's how to make espresso thread

So I've decided to go for a bean to cup machine for me and the other half to add to my Aeropress, Clever Dripper and Chemex ensemble. Does anyone know the difference between the Delonghi 2800 and 4200 as I can't spot it for the life of me, other than cosmetic and the 4200 having 13 grinder...

    Road Tripping in the USA!

There has been some snow and ice reported on the Tioga Pass/Glacier Point roads and Tahoe area is sub zero at night. Doing it a week today. Would just prefer the extra traction if the SUV offers it and the luggage space but if it's not a 4x4 then I may as well stick with a focus/fusion. It's 40...

    Road Tripping in the USA!

So I’m off to SF-Monterey-Yosemite Valley-Tioga Pass- Lake Tahoe- Half Moon Bay Really want a 4x4 if possible as based on previous experiences the mountain roads weren’t kind to a convertible mustang. Are there any sites that will give me the 4x4 model? I’m guessing the SUV option with...

Siliconslave's how to make espresso thread

Cheers for that. May find the extra 75 quid and get the Rocky. As an aside, for the same sort of budget, what espresso machine would folks recommend?

Siliconslave's how to make espresso thread

So I'm finally fed up of my Iberital MC2 with its inconsistency and fiddly settings. Is the Baratza Encore a worthwhile replacement or is there another grinder I should be looking at in the sub £150 range? Thanks for any advice!

**** The Official Chinese Phones Thread ****

Yep, textra has sorted this. Still need to figure out a way to hide the WhatsApp previews; from searching it seems to be a known problem and was only recently introduced in to the MIUI version. There are workarounds but they completely hide the detail of the WhatsApp message not just the...

**** The Official Chinese Phones Thread ****

So just got myself a Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 and am very impressed with it so far. The only real gripe is the way it handles notifications. I've searched for a way so that it just shows I've received a text or WhatsApp from a contact rather than displaying a the message itself and can't find it for...

What Restaurant did you eat at last night?

Somewhat inspired by 'The Trip' we visited http://www.innatwhitewell.com for a spot of lunch yesterday. I had the pate followed by the fish pie and the missus had potted crab followed by sea bass. We shared a sticky toffee pudding which was the absolute star of the show. Lovely place, very...

    Big ol' Burger Comparison Thread

Had a pit burger at Liverpool Reds True BBQ the other week. One of the best tasting patties I've had in a LONG time. Slightly over cooked and vastly overshadowed by the excessive toppings (Brisket, Pulled Pork, Smoked Peppered Bacon, Cheese, Sauces, Lettuce, Pickle) but eating a bit of the patty...

    Spec me: Valentine's meal!

It was OK but not restaurant quality chateaubriand size/shape or taste. 15 quid for circa 450g of centre cut fillet would be a better description which is a good price. Went down a treat with peppercorn sauce, veg and home made wedges. Browned it in the pan first then finished in the oven.
