Advice regards preparation before grass seed

Would it not be cheaper, easier and better results to just put down a few strips of turf? Good turf from a professional lawn supplier, not half dead crap from B&Q.

mortgage - search on your own or mortgage advisor

I've been banned from FirstMortgage ("Free, Whole Market advisors") because apparently there service isn't there to be beaten by doing your own leg work. If you are after easy then yes the free, whole market advisors do a good job. If you are after the very best you can just cut out the 3rd...

    Advice and recommendations for flooring

We had ~55sq/m downstairs done in bamboo (hall, study, living room, dinning room) After much research we went with strand woven bamboo, which is meant to be harder and more durable than hardwood also cheaper which is nice! We went with "Strand Bamboo Super Light Coffee" from Simply Bamboo...

Anyone with experience of Made.com quality?

As above, they have some nice designs and I feel OK quality for the style/price. Customer service was good when I was dealing with an issue with our sideboard. I'm sure it was in this forum that someone gave a link to what was essentially a cheaper version of Made, might have been the same...

    Spec me... a ladder

I went with BPS who seems to be the best value for money. Make sure the ladder has wide feet at the bottom for extra stability. An extra I went for was the stand-off, which gives a sold contact point against the side of the house and lets the ladder go up and above the gutters, again extra...

    Nest Wiring Check

For getting power to your nest thermostat: Do the current wires feeding the Honeywell go to a wiring box? When I added my Nest I put the heatlink next to my wiring box which allowed me to use T1 & T2 .

    My Log Burner...

If it is a cold (or especially cold and damp) day we always make a very small fire to warm the flue up. Even just sticking a couple of firelighters in and letting them burn out first. It seems to really help with stopping the smoke falling back down at the start.

Keeping the lawn tidy when it's constantly wet?

Just do it as often (at least once a week when in full growth) as you can. It might not be needing a full cut but keeping it short will help it dry quicker and give you more opportunities to cut between the bad weather. Good excuse for a few beers and getting out the house.

    Skoda PCH

I went PCH with Simpsons (not that it should make any real diff which dealer as it is VWFS that own the car and arrange the inspection). I felt the inspection was very fair and only got charged damage for 1 alloy in the end. It might be that I am very careful, but there was a few chips and car...

Water pump for rain water storage to water garden?

Not sure if you can lower the pressure but most pressure washers have the option to pull water from a tank rather than mains feed.

    G24q to E27 adapter?

Unless you really like the light fitting and it wont get mucked up with an adapter adding much more length to the bulb, then I would think it much better to replace that actual fitting. Only a few wires that you just replace like for like on the new fitting.

    New Chest Freezer Advice please

If it is inside then they all work much the same. Take a look at running costs, and £ per L for the true value. I would also say that baskets make chest freezers much easier to use!

    New Chest Freezer Advice please

Yes, a lot of chest freezers aren't actually rated for outbuilding use and will stop working when the external temperature drops below ~5deg...as I discovered one year. Just make sure you have a good read of the specs. I went with Capital Products Midas 550L which was outdoor rated, 3-year...

    Moving domain to new registrar

Hi, Looking for some advice about how to move my domain from Planet Hippo. PH has been down (hacked) for 4 days now. I gave them the weekend to sort things out, things looked like they were improving when the main PH site came back online. Now it is back to redirecting to spam so I guess they...
