    Essential Android Apps

HTC One S Right, not wanting to scroll through 420 pages of advice I'm hoping regular posters can help me out. I've just made the leap from Blackberry to Android, having bought an HTC One S a few days ago. So far I am loving it. I've been given a few tips from friends on which apps to get and...

Damaged 2006 Macbook - Price to repair

Is it an A1181? If so (as mine is a 2006-era model) you will find it difficult to replace that screen. The A1181 is only worth repairing if it's simple - RAM, HDD, keyboard, etc. The DVD drive, screen and logic board are not economical to repair. The 2006-era Macbooks are no longer supported...

Wiping all data - Ubuntu Linux 12.04

While I am of the same opinion, it's for a quick sale to get emergency funds. The buyer wants to check everything is working properly, and has requested some form of OS be installed in order to do so. In any case I seem to have removed all independent software through the Software Centre, and...

Wiping all data - Ubuntu Linux 12.04

So I am selling my netbook with Ubuntu 12.04 and am facing the daunting task of removing all personal data. I have never done this before on Linux, so am a bit concerned I will overlook something. Aside from manually deleting files, downloads, and personal folders, as well as removing...

    Cheap Meals

Curries can be made relatively cheaply as said above, if you have some of the spices already. If you don't, keep an eye out for deals on the pre-made sauces and stock up. Make large portions using chicken, onions, garlic, and a few other cheap vegetables and eat the leftovers for a few days...

The OCUK Whisky (and Whiskey) review thread

In case anyone is in the market for a decent blended whisky (or a decent £25 bottle) I would suggest the Naked Grouse. I found it at ASDA, but am assured it is now available elsewhere. Without going into great details, it's a sherry-casked blended whisky with a good price and a balanced...

How do you clean your cast iron skillets?

That's exactly the way to do it. No soap, ever. Oil to loosen bits of food, paper towel to wipe. Salt to scrub. If you do this properly the skillets will last longer than you will.

*** The Official Diablo III Thread ***

Has anyone tried running the beta on an older Macbook Pro? The 2007/8 era C2Duo @ 2Ghz MBP with the 64MB nvidia card. It meets the minimum specs, but I'm curious as to how it would actually look during gameplay. Would it even be worth it?

    Upgrading OSX 10.5.8 to 10.6.8

Unfortunately this Macbook hasn't been backed up in four years (I'm resisting the urge to make comments...) so it'd be a nightmare. It's gathered up so much crud that I'd rather do a fresh install. Web trawling has indicated the upgrade path is relatively low-risk, but since it's not my...

    Upgrading OSX 10.5.8 to 10.6.8

So as I bought my Macbook with Snow Leopard pre-installed I've never actually gone through the upgrade process with OSX. My girlfriend's Macbook Pro is still running 10.5.8 and I've gotten my hands on 10.6.8 Snow Leopard. Every tutorial I read suggests I back everything up. Time is an issue...

10% through and my farking laptop goes to sleep while I'm making dinner. Now the installer won't budge past updating the setup files! Can't. Stop. Staring. At. The. Progress. Bar. God help me I feel like I'm 17 years old again.

554kb/s and I am literally watching the progress bar move cm by cm. My entire Sunday is now full. I plan on leaving work at 5:01 sharp all week. Actually, I'm curious to see how my 2006 Macbook stands up to D3 on low graphics. This is probably the excuse I need to buy a better computer...

Editing syslinux.cfg to run an ISO

So I'm trying to install Windows 8 Preview on my netbook to play around with. I'm having more than a bit of difficulty booting in. Unetbootin gets me to the Default screen, but there seems to be a problem with the command line. Has anyone managed to use Unetbootin for Windows 7? Do I need...

    Swapping Phones with Orange

So I've been thinking of swapping my BB Torch 9860 for the BB Bold 9790. Similar specs and all, only the 9790 has a keyboard. I've decided I'm not as big a fan of the virtual keyboard as I had thought. Long story short, Orange are totally useless and can't help me. They won't replace my phone...

    Ubuntu Tweaks for Netbooks

So I've taken the plunge and installed Ubuntu 11.10 on my eeePC. Been playing with it most of the day (when not outside in the sun) and so far am really enjoying it (post-Unity, that is). My query is in relation to further customisation and tweaks. So far, most if not all guides provide...

post your Linux Rig's specs. pointlessly powerful or amusingly weak ?

Running Oneiric Ubuntu 11.10 on a standard Asus eeePC and it's surprisingly nippy. At least now that I got rid of Unity, that is. Might consider trying Bodhi or Mint at some point. Happy for now.

A balanced diet for two on £50pw

Again, while this is a great suggestion I can only add one rice meal per week, and one pasta meal per week. This is due to dietary constraints in connection with starchy foods. Oh, and I severely dislike quorn. Tuna pasta bake is an option - not had that in a while. Never even made corn...
