Can an OC HD5870 beat a GTX 480??

Cyber-mav's post is a cheap shot. You could cherry pick results at specific settings and resolutions to show that the 5870 beats the 480GTX without overlocking. The 480GTX is approx 10-15% faster than the 5870 on average, no-one is denying that. The 5870 is easily overclockable to those...

Can an OC HD5870 beat a GTX 480??

But who would be crazy enough to risk overclocking a 480GTX? Not me, without some major specialist kit, thats for sure.

    Why Nvidia?

I run CFD analysis a lot (Fire/Smoke dynamics etc) so have a 480GTX on order. So that's one reason 'why nVidia?' Though I am in no way entering the argument about which is the better card, as it's a no brainer to all but the most hardened nVidia fan. Unless your require the special features...

PC Graphics won't improve for 3-4 years.

Definately another point which could use some development above graphics right now. I sometimes feel first person shooters are like whack-a-mole games. You clear an area and one guy remains behind his cover, taking pot shots at you. You know that guy will pop his head up over the barrier in...

PC Graphics won't improve for 3-4 years.

3D graphics were always going to progress slower and slower as time went on. We got the big things... more polygons, lighting, bumpmapping, HDR etc. They came gradually, until we now ultimately have a full set of tools. We've had these tools for a couple of years now and changes are going...

    Official Catalyst 9.12

No improvement in Dirt 2... benchmarks are exactly the same within a margin of error due to the stupidity of that benchmark (i.e it's different every time) 3D mark Vantage improves, as everyone has said. But really who cares. Am interested to see others benchmarking.

Can anyone who has checked confirm these are the same drivers we all got yesterday? Otherwise I'll jump on this as soon as I get home...

    Catalyst 9.12 leaked (Vista/Win7 64)

No difference in Dirt 2 between the 9.11 hotfix and the 9.12. Running a single 5870 @ 900/1300. I hate that benchmark anyway as it's never exactly the same due to the AI... 9.11 Run 1: 55.09 Average Run 2: 58.6 Average 9.12 Run 1: 57.1 Average Run 2: 57.0 Average I'm not sure if it was my...

    5870 Vertical lines Crash

Thankyou!!!!!!! I got this issue recently and thought my rather unique overclocking on my i7 920 causing it. I was completely stable for weeks and then suddenly I kept getting these issues during idle times only. I spent forever and a day getting this overclock to work: Have it running...

Tech ARP updated GTX 380, 360, 395 SPECs!

GTX 395: Max Board TDP = 380W HAHAHAHA, really? Really? REEAAALLLY?? Might wanna look at the PCI Express regulations there... Max power consuption allowable on a 12V current draw is 300W. Fair enough you can specifiy a TDP of greater than max power consumption if you're making sure you...

Do Soundcards Actually Make Much Of A Diffrence?

My vote always goes to a xonar or a DAC. Creative are buggy hell in a box, and not worth it for EAX. The random buzzing, squeeling, popping and distortion through onboard is clearly noticable even on average headphones/speakers.

DPD Appointed New Couriers for Overclockers UK

Thankyou for the support it is much appreciated (and to everyone else aswell), I had already put a complaint into them as soon as it happened. They claim a 2 hour response time, so I'll let you know what occurs. I think my flatmate is also complaining by phone as she was clearly upset and...

DPD Appointed New Couriers for Overclockers UK

Well I just got my new system delivered. A quick summary of what happened with DPD: 1) DPD man screamed at my flatmate on crutches for not coming to the door fast enough after speaking on the intercom. 2) He called her a "spastic" 2) The guy dumped a new PC in the foyer of my apartment...

New PC headphones... what's out there?

If you have no space left for a soundcard why not look at an external USB DAC? Sound quality will be FAR superior even with reasonable headphones. I'm currently running HD650s through a heavily modded Beresford 7520.

Best 2.1 speakers for gaming for around £100

Personally I skip 2.1 and go old school 2.0 and get a pair of Audioengine A2 Active's. £125 of pure pleasure compared to most computer speakers.

    Logitech z-10

I've listened to Z-10s before, and frankly the inbuilt DAC is ample for them. You COULD get a soundcard, but why do you want one? The Z-10s won't sound any better. If you're wanting the souncard for inputs/output connectability etc then fair enough, but seems redundant to get speakers...
