New car suggestions - using car allowance to my advantage....

I've spent a bit of time in a mates 2.7d XF and found it lovely, brisk rather than in any way fast, but I'd imagine a 3.0 S would sort that out! It just seems a waste when I don't need a car that big. But I'm doing too many miles to have a toy whichever way I look at it, Its either something...

New car suggestions - using car allowance to my advantage....

You can get PCP on any car upto 5 years old at 6.9% fox quite a few places will do it, even on a privately bought car!... (I was surprised) The XF really appeals and either a low spec facelift, or a portfolio at 4 years old is in budget. I just don't need anything that big seems a bit of a...

New car suggestions - using car allowance to my advantage....

I've got a 55 plate mk5 Golf GTI at present, but I'll be getting a car allowance at work shortly. The rules are - By not taking an actual company car and buying my own, whatever I get has to be less than 5 years old at the point I buy it, and no older the 8 years during my ownership. Can...

Looking at Leon's now, seems to be a decent savings over golfs, and its the same drivetrain.... Apart from a much worse interior, and a nicer exterior anything else worth knowing? insurance is a fair chunk cheaper as well, and she's not really bothered about interiors... I think its either a...

Jetta's do appear a bit cheaper than the equivalent golf. Definitely worth a look! good shout! I'll have to do some digging on the 2.0 vs 1.9 argument. plenty about at circa 70-80k miles. not unreasonable to expect a few years service out of either surely?!? could always chip the 1.9 and have...

Thanks fox, now you understand the situation thats really useful, and I was starting to think along similar lines, I'm asking an impossible question, and would need to be very lucky. chances are I'd be wasting money. Ive now changed tack a little bit I think. I really dont think I'm going to...

I'm not sure what it proves either, thats why I asked! It may mean plenty get to that mileage, it may mean they all have their boxes re-furbed at 80-100k miles... Who am I to question the mighty fox.... but I will anyway! You've contributed no facts to this thread whatsoever.... I'm looking...

Back on topic... theres plenty of 320d's with over 150k miles on them flying around, I wouldnt buy one, but it seems to suggest that they tend to make it that far. is it the same box as the 330d? must be a few on here who have ran a bmw auto? same question for the VAG auto. Google doesn't...

not criticising the advice at all. just a misunderstanding... I do need it to be good on fuel.. changing the odd sensor/bush/arm, removing swirl flaps, overhauling cooling systems etc.. etc... doesn't bother me. (did it all on my old 325, will probably have to do it on my 330). I already run on...

There no older than the other cars in this thread? On way of going newer is to buy French, or get an Astra.... Neither of which I'm happy with! Fuel costs need to be low yes she does a fair few miles, and we'll probably use it at weekends over my 330 petrol coupe. But I'm a competent mechanic...

They don't do diesel auto's. it's not the fiesta I'm saying is unreliable, it's the fiesta's auto box

What, back doors, boot big enough for a pushchair and good on fuel? 3 out of 3 surely? I think she'll think its too big but its worth a shot! Plenty of estates in budget to! Lol that would be perfect but I doubt she'd drive it. Only thing still putting me off the 1.9 golfs is that ther all...

Can't see a 1.6 fiesta being that good on fuel? And unless the auto box has changed there not the most reliable. (Her last car was an 02 fiesta, auto box failed at 55k miles!) I'm currently trying to convince her that. 320d isn't too big.... If that fails its a golf or a3 1.9tdi... Apart...

I think a 1.9 tdi will be less likely to go wrong! plenty around with moon mileage, so if the auto boxes last well then we should be onto a winner! Fabia's and polo's dont do auto's on the diesels, so it golf or A3 by the looks of things, unless I can convince her that an octavia isn't mych...

Good call on the ebay classifieds.. bit more on there. A3 or golf 1.9 old auto can be had around budget with highish mileage, 2.0 diesel DSG's aren't much more... Less to go wrong on the 1.9? anyone got experience with the non dsg auto's.... some new shape focus 1.6 petrol auto's in...

I wanted to avoid the jazz if possible, but it just seemed to tick boxes (without having driven one) so if the auto box is rubbish then that solves that one! All the vag diesels in price range seem to be 100hp models which is pants, but better than a gutless jazz I suppose! starting to wonder...
