Im running W2k Server wir RAS disabled.
However, each night I get 2 batchs of leases (about 5 each) alloacted to RAS. I'd say that someone was trying to hack in but RAS is disabled and each IP address is allocated at exactly the same time.
Anyone help?
You know what TheKnat - you were right. I noticed it just after I had posted. Sorry for the trouble and thanks for the responses.
I told you the network was a mess....
Sorry - got confused - the server with the problem is not the domain server. So sceanrio is that 1 server can see the domain list and 1 cannot.
Thanks guys
I have a number of older PCs that have 2 USBs on motherboard on rear and 2 on the front (connected via wire).
The rear USBs see and allow usb disks to attach, the front do not.
Anyone any ideas why this would be?
Thanks
Ive just taken over support at a company running W2K server 2000 running Active directory and 1 domain. Altogether the network was a mess with no documentation with lots of old equipment.
Background on me is that I've very competent on PCs and networks but have never really managed a W2K...
I have a VoIP phone that I wanted to plug into my laptop as I sit on my sofa rather than having and ethernet cable trailing over the lounge floor.
Not even with router software in the PC you think?
I have taken over the support of the above on a Compaq Presario ML370.
I have 2 virtual drives across a disk (4gb & 12gb) and I need to resize as the first has only 138mb free.
I've tried Partion Magic v8 and Paragon Disk Manager and neither installs on this op-sys.
What should I use to...
Applications
I thought of that but apart from the general windows updates (of which there were few) there were no apps installed since this started happening
Impossible question really.
I was asked to look at someone's PC recently where there was no software module or driver mentioned in the blue screen.
It is a very basic system with just Office installed.
It is an Advent though...... :)
I suggested maybe memory bad so change?
Windows VPN
Why wouldn't you just create an "incoming connection" on the server machine, forward 1723 from the router and create a vpn client connection on the remote machine?
easy innit? I've done it lots of times.......(unless I'm missing something)
Backup
Why not use Firefox & Gspace - that will give you a 2GB online drive to save data to. Get a number of accounts and of course then you can have x times 2GB backup.
I save my pictures there.....
I have a webcam at home that I have pointed at my stairs because I want to see when my dog sneaks upstairs for a sleep when I'm out.
All very well and good - my webcam emails me pictures when she does and I've got the evidence.
However, what I now want to do is thru a mic on the remote PC...
surely it de[pends what u want to do with it....
for distance you maybe want a rangemax router, personally I love my Linksys WRT54G v2 coz I can load 3rd party firmware on to it.... If you wantyed something like this I think u'd need to ebay as the later models dont use Linux as the base.
I have a wireless network with a Linksys router connected to a Netgear SC101 NAS device.
With the Netgear I got a copy of SmartSync Pro that allows me to take a backup each time Windows starts.
Problem is that SmartSync starts and trys to start the backup before the Netgear is connectted...
Recently I've obviously installed something that causes my mouse buttons to not respond immediately to the click.
The mouse is fine (using a Dell Laptop with touchpad) - the mouse test click under control panel works perfectly everytime.
It's just that when browsing for instance, if I try...
