Draytek Vigorap 810 - POE issue

Do you mean powerline adapter? Powerline adapters are not PoE injectors. There is one Devolo model I've seen that is also a PoE injector, and it's a daft price. The energy to run the AP has to come from somewhere, PoE doesn't create energy.

    Possible Faulty switch

The person installing that data cabling not realising you can get a double module outlet and having the cable just exit the wall with a plug crimped on the end has convinced me that all the problems are with the terminations of these cable runs.

    Possible Faulty switch

These are contradictory, sorry I'm out of this thread. It's impossible to try and troubleshoot a moving target.

    Finally, we're getting FTTP, woo-hoo!

You've had access to 1Gbit VM for the past five years but avoided it because you don't like the company, and then when YouFibre start rolling out - probably the best vertically integrated network builder and ISP in the UK, as well as being amongst the cheapest - you have reservations because...

    Possible Faulty switch

Why would you have to move monitors to plug a PC into a port in another room? Also you've already plugged your brothers PC into your wall port so you have a cable long enough to do that distance, just use that long cable to plug your PC into your brothers wall port. I swear you're making this...

    Finally, we're getting FTTP, woo-hoo!

What you're likely to see as a side-effect of other people getting FTTP - assuming they were on FTTC before - is that the crosstalk starts to go away as FTTC lines get turned off and your sync rate might go up as a result. When my neighbours moved out their house and it was empty for a couple of...

    Possible Faulty switch

I can't see any mention of a test with the suspect PC connected to the wall port in the other room, so my suspicion is that the structured cabling is faulty but the tolerance of the new NIC is masking it and holding the link up. Structured cabling that is installed and tested with a little...

    Finally, we're getting FTTP, woo-hoo!

Higher tiers have been available for all ISPs to trial for probably a year now, there's nothing stopping the wider deployment other than perhaps providers like TalkTalk looking at the tiers their customers are subscribing to and deciding there's no demand there. These sorts of over-1gbps service...

    Finally, we're getting FTTP, woo-hoo!

220Mbps upload was always a hugely expensive option that most retail providers don't offer

    Possible Faulty switch

The fact you have structured cabling is really critical information, and I can only speak for myself but when you wrote that you'd swapped all the cables I ruled out the existence of in-wall cabling.

    Virgin Media Discussion Thread

The biggest problem with Virgin Media if you're on their XGS-PON network is that it's impossible to talk to someone who knows how to do anything other than follow a flowchart and maybe offer to let you out the contract if the service is still bad, there are no high quality wholesale customers on...

    Nat change to Open

Do you mean you can't play online as in you are getting an error message, or do you mean "I find anything other than open NAT to be unplayable"? I don't think there's any reason why CGNAT shouldn't work for online gaming.

I think they could be a bit more open about the problems since it clearly isn't a fault that is affecting the entire BT Wholesale customer base in these locations.

It's quite funny just how poor Intel ethernet adapters have become, they were the go-to choice not that long ago.

    City Fibre

If each unit in your block has its own front door and front yard area with party wall agreements between each house then it's weird that they'd be registered as flats on the addressing database rather than 7A, 7B, 7C or whatever. However if the exterior walls of the building, the land it sits...

The router reboot is basically saying to drop the PPPoE session, wait a couple of minutes, and then establish the PPPoE again. Instructing someone to reboot the router just does this in a single step.

Changed network domain name - minor problem

Do you actually have a DNS server running on your network that is resolving these addresses? .local is what Bonjour uses for service discovery so that's the domain your Mac will be using.

    BT Infinity & FTTx Discussion

Order a new service with whichever ISP you want, on whichever access network is an option for you - in your case this would likely be SOGEA but delivered on a second copper pair. For me it was FTTP with an altnet. Once your new service is in and working, port your current landline number to a...
