Ok that’s sound advise I appreciate it.. maybe there are better solutions.. for example can I have my server on a (software) client VPN but have all my LAN traffic still access the server on any port ? Plus then have certain external traffic access it via fixed ports? (It’s a silly question as...
min 4 ports, 1gbps LAN is fine, Wifi 6 min. Router / Firewall combo is ideal (less power inputs) but if i can get just the VPN as a hardware Accesspoint thats a nice option too then i can use my existing router? Budget id say is about £150 - 200 ish my last router was about £280 which was so...
Yes it has OpenVPN this is what I used to connect to express VPN to test it .. which had the low throughput I listed above. No wireguard option, and I don’t think the router is Merlin compatible as it’s an DSL model I don’t think custom firmwares are compatible?
Id like to set my router to give access wide VPN client (via Nord or Express VPN or similar). However my currentr Asus DSL-AC88U does not seem to support hardware encyrption so it has to be done on the CPU and of course its not really up to it so manages not much more than about 30~50mbps maxed...
Thank you, I’ll give the Kingston memory a shot.. didn’t even notice the difference between registered and non registered I just assumed all ECC was registered.
I checked the RAM in other slots.. but ill test it again to make sure i wasnt being a n00b.. ive not reseated the CPU, or checked for debris but i can try that after.
Im building (or trying) a mini home server but after my initial install of the gear listed below it won’t post, instead it just powers down after about 6 seconds and reboots on a continuous loop, nothing on the display.
Any ideas? I’m thinking it could be RAM but I’ve tried all modules in both...
Better brand, but no NVME :( also I’d rather go with a stand alone CPU instead of an APU.. just so there is some upgrade path later as I’m not 100% sure how much processing power I’ll need longer term. But will certainly need to be transcoding a few streams at once as it doubles as a plex server
I’d like to build a new sff server for my True NAS setup, but need a new mobo to build it around. I have a case and PSU I want to reuse, but looking for recommendations…
Ideally it needs to be:
ITX size
DDR3 (so I can reuse my Ram).
1xNVME slot (full size)
1Gb Lan
integrated graphics
I planned...
My current machine has 4 x 3TB WD Red, but would likely move to 2 x 10TB WED Red or Ironwolf NAS .. cost permitting. What OS do you run on yours? As i want to remote into it, and using windows is just overkill and a terrible experience when trying to remote connect.
Not a bad idea but looks dated now even if I can find one, so I wouldn’t get much warranty ? Also it’s physically quite big despites its micro layout compared to NAS at least?
I currently have a Windows PC serving as a home storage and PLEX media server. However, its getting quite old now (its from 2011) and i fear for data loss and the general expense of running due it it being on 24/7 (it dosnt recover from low power states so its on full power all the time).
I am...
i didnt fit one, as i was hoping the front 2 x 180mms would be enough push air through .. but i could fit a 140mm at the back to pull as well? I'll try with no side on the case as well.
