Looking for a road bike - makes etc?

One quick tip: As you expect to use it so frequently, I would avoid bikes with Sora (aim for Tiagra) componentry as it wont last long. Alternatively, you could buy a Sora equiped bike now and replace the parts that fail, as they fail with I would recommend Tiagra or 105 at the least.

    What's your dream bike?

Trek Madone 5.2 Pro Ive got one! :D Only it has SRAM Force and custom wheels using DT Swiss components. I'll try to get some pics of me and mine up soon. I wouldn't mind a mid-level XC / single track orienteed hard tail one of these days, but I am so chuffed with the Madone I can't see me...

    Just ordered a new Bicycle.

You want the thruth? YOU CANT HANDLE THE TRUTH! In all seriousness, I am going to tell it to you anyway. Do not buy any bike from Halfords unless its made by Dawes, Chris Boardman or some other decent make. Those cheap full sussers and hard tails Halfords push out weigh a tonne, are...

6th Element sucks! Has that got your attention! :p I think you missed my question: For that matter, any others experience with SRAM Force (or Rival or Red) would be appreciated. Gratefully yours, pfx

Advice on a new road bike please!!!

So you want it for commuting but what else might you use it for? Long distance rides? AUDAX? Racing? Touring? If I understand the cycle to work scheme correctly, generally the employee can only use the retailer selected by his/her employer. In the OP case, I presume thats AWCycles? I think...

Dude you need bike therapy! :D I really like how the carbon weave on the crank matches that of the frame. How do you rate SRAM Force? Im getting a Trek built up with it in a few weeks am and very much looking forward to learning this double tap funkery. I have previously only used Shimano.

Glucasamine and other supplements for an endurance athlete

Thanks for all the discussion and input people. What I will do is go for a few months without it and try to determine if I am in any way worse off.

Glucasamine and other supplements for an endurance athlete

Currently I do a lot of cycling and also am going to start some running (once Ive bought some shoes). Id be very appreciative of recommendations for Glucosamine / joint care supplements at competitive prices. The priority is the quality of the product over the price but I would hope not to have...

I will no longer follow athletics

Its pretty frustrating trying to enjoy these sports when there is so much distrust of the competitors. With one doping scandal after anouther, I stopped watching the 2007 Tour De France during the second week. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Doping_at_the_2007_Tour_de_France

    Drivers attitudes to cyclists

Sickening. The other day I was cut up by a driver who did it out of pure spite. I got her plate and reported her to the police. Infact I report every cretin who attempts to screw me over and risks injurying or killing me. The last time I had an actual impact with a car, I couldnt walk for...

Looking for a new bike... recommendations?

I think (and this is coming from a now avid roadie) that a hardtail mountain bike would be the ideal first bike simply because of its versitality. Especially if it has a lockout on the front fork (stops the suspension moving around) and equiped with slicks, this is a more than adequate solution...

Looking for a new bike... recommendations?

Claud Butler, Gary Fisher, Bill Smith, Terry Jones, Trek, Giant, Bianchi, Kona, GT to name but a few. Avoid Halfords as a general rule.

Looking for a new bike... recommendations?

Run a search and you'll find lots of recent discussions that are compatible with your needs. A £100 bike stands a high chance of being a money pit long term and you'll come to loath it. If we forget sale prices for a moment, a £200 hybrid would be a good starting point. Try to get a bike with...

Recommend me a £300 hybrid bike please.

Why are you so sure he wants/needs higher gearing and a more upright position? Broona, what sports do you do and how would you rate your fitness and flexibility? Is your priority comfort and stability in the bike or are you interested in something more sporting?
