    Community Fibre

I hope that there are no rules on bumping as long as it is on topic. Figured it would be better to keep it on the same thread. I was wondering if anyone would kindly post a few photos of the installation. I am particularly interested in finding out what the cables through the hole they drill in...

Motorola Xoom successor to have a quad core CPU and 2048X1536 screen?

Sorry CAT, I don't get your issue. The link you've posted is more about a successor to Motorola Xoom, than it is about Kal-El. And if people have had bad experience with Motorola, then of course they are going to take the opportunity to have a jab (and from what I've seen it's kept pretty...

    What determines your nationality?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Third_culture_kid Welcome to the club ;) Sorry for the bump but it is an interesting topic to me :) 'Nationality' is easiest defined by one's passport/citizenship. This can differ from one's place of birth. A Japanese citizen for instance -must- renounce his...

    mp3 file renamer

Are there any cues available? Say the filenames themselves? Or are both the file names and tags like 01.mp3, 02.mp3 etc. If you have some cues then you can use the Foobar Masstagger.

    Headphones.....

Headphone amp. Look up for a CMoy or Pocket Amp 2 on your favorite auction site.. Unless your budget stretch over £35. But to be honest, unless you are trying to run some big cans on your mobile phone or something, it shouldn't be necessary volume wise. If you need more volume because of the...

    Sennheiser HD515s or HD555s?

I do own two very different type of full sized cans (Grado HF-1 and AKG K701). I also have two Koss and a high end Universal Fit IEM (Westone UM2). Along with the headphone amp and Elite Pro sound card, I won't be spending more on audio equipment for a good while.. The next step will probably...

    Annoying your neighbours

@Shakey_Jake33: Indeed, so far I have yet to hear a complaint. I realise that I do play my music quite loud especially when I am cleaning the flat. But I certainly would appreciate getting a knock on the door and being told to lower the volume a few notch before taking to higher authorities...

    Why is Conroe so great?

Indeed. Conroe is good for the reasons why many of the AMD chips were well regarded in the last few years.. even though they carried the same limited benefits in very high resolution gaming. It didn't stop them from being better bang for buck than their Intel counterpart.. and the same applies...

    Annoying your neighbours

I resent the way you stereotype hip hop fans (the insult is implied). At best, it suggests close mindedness, or worse; at worse, it's flamebait.. neither beneficial to your credibility.

    best 5.1 speakers for x-fi??

Klipsch are well regarded, but the problem is that they are hard to find in the UK, and well overpriced for the few that I've found. The Ultra is usually considered to have the best Multimedia sub though (with the Gigas taking the prize for the satellite thanks to the tweaters). It would have...

5.1 speaker system under £70 inc Postage

Umm, limited options there. I am not sure how much the Logitech Z-680, but I hear the price has been slashed significantly. Or you can look at the Inspire series from Creative. Nothing amazing, but you are looking for a surrounded setup on a relatively tight budget.

    best 5.1 speakers for x-fi??

For multimedia speakers, consider the Creative Gigaworks S700 (basically the 7.1 version without two satellites). One step up from the Megaworks.. and I think the Megaworks are fairly hard to find now anyway. [For reference I have compared the Megas with the Logitech of the time, the...

X-Fi Music compare to a Ac97 onboard sound

I don't know what you are expecting or what headphones you've used.. But the Beyerdynamic DT880 for instance are absolutely terrible when used with an onboard sound card. Even moving up to the A2NX makes a very appreciable difference. Grado cans on the other hand are a bit more forgiving... But...

    Audio Problems with NF7-S

Plug the speakers on another source (e.g. CD player or anything) just to make sure that it is not the speaker cable/jack that's damaged.

do people seriously buy those logitech/creative mini satalite things?

Speaker placement is one of the reason why I do not plan, for the time being get into Hi-Fi (cost being the other factor), and why I advocate the use of headphones, especially if you are living in a student flat. They are easier when moving, there is minimal worry in terms of placement, and can...

do people seriously buy those logitech/creative mini satalite things?

Headphones generally provide the better value. £100 is berely entry level, in Hi-Fi, whereas it can get you a good mid range pair of cans.

How do I completly remove data??

Yea, there are a number of tools that does multiple passes and added fancyness. I remember using one, forgot what it's called (I think it includes the word "Shredder") and using the most secure mode took several hours to delete 4-5GB  Can't imagine wiping a modern 500GB or larger HD at...

Which external? Seagate or Western Digital?

Potentially better setup, but at cost. Grab a Dell and try to build one yourself for the same cost. Once you throw in the applications, it is not unlikely for the Dell to come ahead in value.

Differences Between USB/Firewire Soundcard As Opposed To PCI Soundcard

Sound quality depends on the card itself. However, it is not uncommon for sound card manufacturers would release their flagship in PCI format before making an external/USB version. So the better card would then be internal there. Then again, you can get USB DACs, many of which are considered at...

do people seriously buy those logitech/creative mini satalite things?

The way I see it, speakers aren't meant to produce ground shaking bass in the first place.. And at time, some manufacturers (I think Logitech is the biggest culpit here) do put more emphasis on quantity than quality of the bass with their subwoofer. So I wouldn't be surprised if 5.1 MM speakers...
