1.9 or 2.4? Edit - just reread OP. The turbo conversion for a 2.4 is pretty easy and you get 2.5TDI power with none of the electronics. I went through exactly the same thought process last year and bought a 2001 1.9 TD that had been part converted, not very well but with good bits like a gas...

you'll need a specialist for sure. VIDA is the software you want them to use. No independant Volvo specialist will be without it.

i'd use them. When in use they get shotblasted in salt, snot, water and all sorts of unpleasant stuff off the road. They are extremely unlikely to have been bathed in a solvent strong enough to hurt the glue honding the friction to the backing plate.

With FSH and one owner, that fiesta has everything going for it. Subject to seeing it in the flesh it sounds perfect.

Sorry but that's rubbish. a D5 auto XC90 is only supposed to do 40mpg extra urban, combined they are supposed to do 33. However as others have said it's a very good engine. I certainly wouldn't call it clattery.

My S60 d5 used to average 50mpg combined.... Obviously no XC90 will acheive this, but the D5 is a stunning engine still up there with modern competition. The XC90 has a few niggles in the 4wd system that only become apparant in this kind of weather. If you go past one in a fiesta its...

If the fuse is blown there is no circuit - no circuit = no drain. However rear screens and alarms are notorious for causing battery drains. Certain VW models can drain through the alternator as well. My mates R reg passat does this.

My 944 is designed to run on 4 star (But has an ally head/block so no conversion needed). I run it on 95 ron, i've tried 97 makes no noticable differance.

It may not have been the greatest idea but my V70 was a low pressure turbo but it didn't come up as a turbo on the insurance database. I didn't ring and ask, it was done off the reg number, matched everything else and I was only going to keep the car 6 months. I think this must happen...

I've never seen a proposal form that asks you to disclose windscreen claims. In fact all the ones i've seen specify that you do not need to disclose claims on glass cover.

I've currently got 2 944s though only one is on the road. I did a thread about the red one ages ago, but the bottom end has gone on the engine after the oil pressure relief valve got stuck :( taking the engine out on thursday hopefully, got it all ready today so now it "just" torque tube...

Shame its an auto, 205s are becoming sought after i bet a manual would fetch twice that.

While obviously it's a good excuse to fleece people, there are now so many people with 3 and 6 points on their licence that statistically i bet it has little impact on how "safe" a driver you are and therefore has less effect on insurance premiums that are largely worked out on statistics.

You can also negotiate, especially if the damage is not structural, to buy it back and them to not put a Cat D or C marker on the car. I'd find a specialist garage and ask their advice.
