    Trading the stockmarket (NO Referrals)

Still sitting in my Global 100 ETF. Just a shame NVD is only my 3rd largest holding. Top two is APPL and MSFT with AMZN my 4th and GOOGLE and Broadcom 5 and 6. Needless to say, it's showering gains today.

A third of U25s haven't drunk alcohol in the past year

I see it more and more in my age group too. People drinking 0.0% or simply just soft drinks. I was at a polo event last weekend in a private lounge, about 20 people there, age ranges from 25-60. I'd say at least 50% of people there were drinking soft drinks only or zero percent alcohol. Myself...

You never think you will ever get old !!!

I'm 43 now (44 in June) and 110% believe my best is yet to come. I'm in FAR better shape than any other time in my life, but in one area I have to bow the knee to Father Time, is eating and drinking bad foods. I don't know if the quality of crap foods is just worse nowadays, but a greasy...

Cost of Living - Shrinkflation is speeding up at an alarming rate

Correct. But you can also make an argument that there's no need to stay on minimum wage your entire life. My MIL has been on minimum wage her entire life, been complaining about it (presumably) her entire life yet turned down every opportunity offered to her to make more money, but she 'doesn't...

    Mortgage Rate Rises

Replying to myself here with the benefit of 7 months hindsight since the above post, and probably a year since the original thought of selling some shares to pay off my mortgage. Truly, thank God I didn't do this. The stock market has been going parabolic the last 7 months, and especially the...

What did *you* do to get your promotion?

The guy above me quit. I got promoted.

What is a good salary in UK at present?

Housing is expensive yes, but where I am, it's still very doable and you get value for money. The wife is an absolute house snob, and what we can get for our money in the UK is rather poor in comparison to what we have now. It's almost idyllic where we are. Lots of work in NZ, so you'll find...

What is a good salary in UK at present?

Family reasons. Parents getting older, not really in our daughter's life apart from through a screen once a week. And it's a helluva flight to get there. Money is better in Australia than NZ. I'm leaving 30% on the table by not working in Oz. Prefer NZ though. We truly have a sweet life here...

What is a good salary in UK at present?

I'm a civil engineer but working in a senior role in vertical construction. My wife works as PM for NZs largest Telco company. It's safe to say that we have it extremely sweet. We're looking at serious drops in income if we move back to the UK. I genuinely cannot believe the rubbish money on...

What is a good salary in UK at present?

We're in NZ and our food bill for 2 adults and a growing little gnome is about £100 a week, give or take. And that's shopping the specials almost exclusively. Crazy how expensive food is here and how comparatively cheap it is in the UK.

    Trading the stockmarket (NO Referrals)

Reading this thread makes me log on to my ETF/Tracker account far too often. I'm 1-2 decent trading days away from being back at my ATH, which was 21/08/23. After yesterday's green session, my account will update on Monday 5pm and I'm hoping to be back to the top. Very very tempted to sell out...

How would you vote in a referendum to abolish the monarchy?

Keep. I like the cosplay and how serious they take it all.

What is a good salary in UK at present?

Interesting thread. Our HH income is quite high. We've been looking at potential moving back to the UK, and as such I've been loosely looking at jobs. I'm quite shocked at how little the permanent jobs in my field pay in the UK. Contracting, yes, it can be quite lucrative, but the permie...

I think you're right. Must've messed something up when I checked previously. I just ran a custom report on my ETF. 01/01/2023 - 03/11/2023 Custom Returns - 23.61% 12 months - 19.06% https://www.ishares.com/us/products/239737/ishares-global-100-etf This is the fund btw. I'm unhedged in the...

Cost of Living - Shrinkflation is speeding up at an alarming rate

I lived in London for 10 years and never had it that unlucky. Tough breaks man. Where I live now, the local council closed our local police station as there's just not enough crime. A stolen bike last October, although recently there was a break-in in a local shop which had the local Facebook...

Cost of Living - Shrinkflation is speeding up at an alarming rate

Just a scouting session for the moment. Family there and growing old. We'll keep the house in New Zealand. Can always leave the UK again if we find we don't like it. I currently know of three different couples that's moving back home (UK). All settled here as well in new homes with great jobs...

    Mortgage Rate Rises

I just renewed mine last week. Went from 3.39% to 6.69%. Although we've paid off such a large chunk that our repayments went down to about £171.34 a week from just over £200. We'll probably be done and dusted with the thing in mid 2025.

Cost of Living - Shrinkflation is speeding up at an alarming rate

Wife, daughter and I are visiting the UK next summer as part of a scouting session with the idea of potentially moving back there towards next Christmas or shortly after. But I must say, this thread doesn't fill me with optimism.

    Trading the stockmarket (NO Referrals)

I'm up 5.93% over the last 6 months and 12.91% YTD. Took 10k profit about a week before the latest share sale so got pretty lucky with timing there.

***The Official Starfield Thread*** (As endorsed by TNA)

Payment got taken yesterday and looking forward to the release here in NZ on Wednesday. I've taken the rest of the week off work, mostly to play, but there'll be garden work too. I'm not expecting a mind-blowing game, and like all other Bethesda games, I probably won't complete it either, but...
