Finland considering giving every citizen €800 a month

Sounds really sensible to me, something which is a real gripe amongst people at work is the cost of taking kids abroad during school holidays. Particularly hard one to do anything about, as it's really just supply and demand, also as I argued (although partly as devil's advocate) going abroad...

Finland considering giving every citizen €800 a month

If you made it genuinely high enough to live on, the only potential issue (other than finding the money in the first place) that I can see would be ignorant, pop a baby out, people. If they have a fixed income then the more children they have, the less the children have. They're obviously a...

Finland considering giving every citizen €800 a month

It's an interesting idea, and one that I think has been voiced for here when talking about benefit reform. I'd say to make it actually work here you would need to phase it out over x salary, which would free up some for the people who do need more (although obviously having any judgement on who...

    The Best Monopoly Properties

They've got their own game, which actually sounds a bit like a game I have, Monopoly is a truly terrible game, any alternate version increases the fun.

How did you find your job?

Job before last I applied to from their website, current one I had a recruiter put me forward for, and I'm just about to change to one that I got contacted by a recruiter for, one interview and I was told I was the only person in the running

    Mortgage Calculator

There are obviously implicit multipliers within that, but it is just down to whether given your normal expenditure you can afford it, it was a requirement that came in last year. The more you earn the higher the multiplier can be because obviously more of it is disposable because your base...

    more crackdowns on contractors expected

It's understandable that they've got a contractor to fill the gap until they can recruit a perm, it's ridiculous that they've not recruited one yet.

    Mortgage Calculator

For the last 18 months (and longer for some) banks/morgtage providers haven't used salary multipliers, actually taking the affordability of repayments as the primary decider in whether to approve your loan. So what other outgoings you have will drastically affect the amount you can borrow. The...

You've made clear that they're not paying enough to attract someone to the permanent role, clearly they should be paying more and have a permanent employee. You are a terrible example of a contractor (not individually, but your situation) the time you've been employed at a significantly higher...

Charlie Sheen confirms he is a bigger douchebag than we ever thought

I know the mention of the Tiger Blood thing was a joke, but he's said he's known about this for 4 years, his big "breakdown" was 4 years ago, maybe it wasn't unrelated

I don't disagree with anything you've said, and none of it is news to me, but plenty of the examples given in this thread of "this is never going to be possible now" refer to things that fixed term contracts would cover. If you're taking on a team to develop a new project with an uncertain...

I'm a bit confused by all the people thinking that this removes all flexibility from employers. You can have a fixed term contract of a "proper" PAYE employee.

Job offer what should I do?

It doesn't sound like the new job is worth it, but it's worth having the conversation with your manager. Say that you've been offered it but you don't want to leave, and you'd appreciate them giving you some assurance that you've made the right decision as you could obviously get more elsewhere.

Ah, what a twit, I even checked I had them the right way around in my head and then typed the wrong one! Yes, because common practice and banks could never be illegal... I'm not bitter, and I clearly could do it if it's common practice. It does sound like it's very close to being illegal...

That's surely treading close to tax avoidance, doesn't just sound dodgy, it sounds illegal.

If you have effectively a permanent place of work then you shouldn't be claiming mileage to it, a long commute is different from working away from your permanent place of work.

Paternity leave, gardening leave and payments?

http://www.dad.info/work/paternity-leave/what-if-i-m-self-employed this doesn't look great for you, I can't really see that you're going to be able to get any paid leave from anywhere, and don't think the statutory stuff applies while you're not in employment, so you'd get it for these 2 days...
