    The nervous wait to exchange....

You have to be comfortable, the worst they'll say is 'no' and re offer their original. This is where a good EA earns their fee. You may have to wait weeks or months for a better offer, so if it's not a real hindrance or barrier for you, getting things moving is the best option sometimes. It's...

    The nervous wait to exchange....

Your position and theirs really dictates things in my experience. I'd rather have a slightly lower offer from a party that's really interested, committed and in a good position. Than a slightly higher offer from a less reliable party, who are more so-so and perhaps part of a long or unstable...

    Projector Mount - Optoma

Evening All, I'm looking for a mounting plate to enable me to use my projector with a floor stand that uses a 1/4 thread. The projector is too heavy and these threads are too recessed to use a single mounting point or a M4 to 1/4 converter. I've searched a bit but can't find anything...

    The nervous wait to exchange....

Let-to-Buy Mortgage Can anyone share their experience here? Considering this as a last-resort option to move us in to a proceedable state for a property we've secured whilst mine sells. We have a vendor wanting a complete chain very quickly and have a great deal + dealing direct. I'm certain...

What "man jobs" have you done today?

Problem solved the basin waste outlet being too low for the washstand, we had to guess at the time of plastering. I needed to extend the down pipe from the basin somehow. Somehow we ended up with two waste traps, nickel is hard to come by. So looking for a cheap option and a way of joining two...

Spec me a hoover to use with 18v batteries

Could you share which model you have? Yep, hence the reference to making use of them! Good to know, reviews on Amazon seem a bit hit and miss, mostly hit though. Could you share where you purchased yours please?

Spec me a hoover to use with 18v batteries

After 12 years my Dyson DC25 is kaput. Just as well because it sounded like a jet engine no matter what I tried. I do have several Makita 18v 5AH batteries which I would like to capitalise on if possible, I know that adapters do exist to use power tool batteries on some hoovers and brands. No...

    Trading the stockmarket (NO Referrals)

I don't hold much crypto about 3% of my ISA. I find the Coinbase app absolutely awful for tracking returns and had looked for other platforms but came across Coinstats which links directly and will show your portfolio much more clearly and absolute return / average price etc. I have no affinity...

    Sanding wood floor

Beltsander and 120 grit sounds like your best bet. Floorsander really is for stripping back and levelling boards, not just keying or skimming the surface in a specific area. Used one on my O/H's 1920's, you'd be done in about 5 minutes flat based on what you need to do.

    Pillow talk.

This is exceptionally plump. I can't remember which hotel or stay away was using them but it's the fullest pillow I have and been going strong for a few years now. Nothing trumps the flat sweat stained older-than-me pillow. Hits different.

What "man jobs" have you done today?

Replaced the porch light fitted 12 years ago. Planning to sell in the next few months and it was a contemporary metal one which had rusted and the clear perspex had started to yellow. Can't really knock it for £10 from Screwfix. Slabs by the door both need re-bedding or potential buyers will...

Advice on asking for a pay increase?

Evidencing market rate for the role or similar work is probably the best approach. Expect them to call your bluff and be prepared to leave. They'll need to weigh up the opportunity cost and disruption of losing you. Don't be quite so direct but simply explain you feel undervalued, the market...

    Massive Car insurance costs?

+32% though the broker policy fee increased from £5 to £35! They conceded and held this at £5, bringing the increase this year to +22%. (Adrian Flux). They are still less than half what other main stream insurers are offering. Edit: pushed back on the policy fee increase and they conceded...

    Trading the stockmarket (NO Referrals)

No. You receive basic rate tax relief at source. There is no employee NI relief. Additional rate tax relief, for higher earners, needs claiming via self assessment or a tax code adjustment via PAYE. The only way to benefit regarding NI on pension payments is to salary sacrifice, whereby your...

What did *you* do to get your promotion?

Make yourself invaluable and make it clear that you're ambitious. If they want to keep you, they will. Sometimes it can come down to right place, right time. Succession planning can be a large factor too, a slightly longer game and no guarantee still.

    Plumbing advice

Late to the party... brass shanked fill valves are much better, particularly if novice as it's easy to overtighten and strip the threads on plastic. To establish where something is actually leaking tying some loo-roll above the suspected joint is a good way to ID if the culprit is further up...

Adjusted the £75 thermostatic cartridge for the new-to-us shower mixer valves, that I suggested the O/H buy having diagnosed the previous one as faulty in error :o:p
