Yes the CPU easily reaches 4.6Ghz The high end Nvidias are 1 out of my price bracket 2 wouldn't support freesync.
Do some people ignore freesync and just go for nvidia for higher frame rates?
Thanks for the replies guys
From what little i understand so far is that yes i would love to run games at native 4k but not sure a Vega 64 would be good enough and that to be honest would be the maximum i would spend on a card.
Dropping to 1080p /1440p is obviously an option but that kinda made...
Hi all, i'm totally lost with modern PC hardware and hope some of you nice ppl can advise me to what Graphics card would go with my current system.

Intel - Core i7-4790K 4 GHz Quad-Core Processor
Asus - Z97-P ATX LGA1150 Motherboard
Kingston - HyperX Fury...
Yes air cooled with a Tuniq Tower and 5 12cm fans to keep everything else cool.
Obviously creates quite a bit of noise but not too much to bother me.
Was thinking of water cooling to get to 4GHz but i find 3.6G enough for my needs.
Just dropped my vcore to 1.45v and testing 3.6GHz on E6600 with orthus small fft... 45 mins and 54c both cores.
Thats using a Tuniq Tower.
Temps seem to vary from cpu to cpu, i have had 2 6600's now and 1 runs .1v higher to get the same speed but temps were roughly the same on both.
lol yeah must admit i am getting a little bored running orthus over and over again (need an excuse to stop it).
when i was @ 3.8 i noticed my idle temps were way up around 40c but all over the place. only tried running 1 super-pi @32m and temps were under 50c.
I might lap the cpu if i can be...
"chipper36....what cooling do you have m8 ?
Those are pretty good temps you got there !"
Tuniq Tower and a fair few case fans.
"65c is perfectly safe btw, Ive been there and above since xmas, 24/7"
yeah i probably could run it with them temps and lower vcore a bit further too.
had it...
Both the tests were done on blend stress which is a lot harder to pass than small or large.
I have done a fair bit of testing on both chips, small, large and blend.
Temps on the 3.7 setting were imo too high for me, looking through the core temp log shows it hit 65c a few times (which is what...
Got hold of a L632B CPU which shows further improvement on this board.
Although stable i won't be running at this speed as temps are a little on the high side.
Seems to hang around low to mid 50's - load but after checking logs it did peak @ 65c.
Also getting 1 or 2 cold start probs needing a...
1600x9 for me, doesn't seem any different in the fact i can't lower any voltages and still seems a bit iffy with my memory.
mem 2.3v 1000 (auto 5-7-7-23)
seems more stable than when its @ 800 (4-4-4-12 or 5-5-5-15)
Currently using Scythe S-FLEX 1600RPM Ultra Quiet 120mm Fan - 3/4 pin
Doesn't seem to be a lot in it.
I noticed my original fan was making strange noises, and when i took it out the wire was getting scraped by the fan.
Temps are very good E6600 @3.6GHz with 1.550v gives me orthus temps of...
Reduced fsb to 1467 and memtest showed up loads of errors, so wacked up mem voltage to 2.3v and now running it at 1000... dunno how long it will last but its doing ok so far.
Can't be any problems with my memory then.
PC reset at 9hrs45.
Mine looks even older and i bought it approx 2 months ago.
Was running fine @ 3.6GHz 400x9 but lots of problems now and no matter what timings i use i get instability.
Wondering what memory i can get that will improve my chances of running more stable.
Sorry but as this is my 1st C2D system i wouldn't dare recommend it to anyone, but i can say for my needs so far is fine. plus it has TWO IDE ports so i can hook up my 4 dvd burners.
