    Overclocking problem

Try jumping a ways up the FSB (say to 350MHz), you may be hitting a strapping point. Sometimes you can clock past it, Worth a try!

    Stress testing in Vista

Ok guys, am I being a moron? I've just put together my new rig E6400 GA-P35C-DS3R mobo 2Gb OcUK ram BFG 8800 GT Vista Ultimate 32bit whenever I run orthos, it claims I have more than one CPU (rather than one dual core chip), and the system hangs the moment I start running the stress...

    Cpu running hot.

Then something is very wrong! Check the BIOS settings anyway, maybe set them manually to make sure they're right. It might be worth checking the temp. using a thermal probe or infra-red thermometer as the sensor may simply be screwed, but if the chip is running that hot then there is a problem...

    Overclocking e6600 - Restricted?

Voltage can easily go up to 1.6v, although many don't like going that high. Also, keep an eye on temps as you increase voltage. Start getting worried if it exceeds 60 degrees

Do most people run the Overclock 24/7 ?

You could always overclock and then activate stepspeed (or AMD equivalent). This slows the chip down when not working hard, thus saving power and resulting in slightly cooler temps. As soon as the chip is asked to work hard it is dialled up to full power!

A good resource on overclocking for beginners??

Read the sticky on Beginners guide to overclocking - that's how I learned!

suggest a *** cooler to overclock this rig

Both previously mentioned coolers will be good but if you have a bit of extra cash to splash, take a look at the Titan Amanda. Reviews are mixed but as Titan say this cooler will only really perform well on hot chips (like the quad or SERIOUSLY overclocked C2D's) I think it could work well for...

my ram is holding me back...

This is why I'm buying cheap PC8500 stuff, I'd by gutted if I couldn't reach my chips full potential because of my ram! On a more useful note, I have this ram at the moment and mine won't boot at 2.3v, not sure why, maybe it's an AMD memory controller thing...

How do i reformat my HD???

What he said. Boot from win98 CD, it'll give the option to format when you install. Then upgrade as before. Even if you did manage to format using the upgrade disk, you won't be able to install XP cos it's only an upgrade!

New build not booting - Hard Drive??

Windows will need reinstalling. It'll be trying to load Emachines drivers and they're causing trouble. Even if that isn't the case, it sounds like the windows install is borked and will need redoing anyway.

    Raptor x - Worth it?

Samsung Spinpoints are very quiet, I have the 400Gb version and I can't hear it at all. Definitely would agree that the Raptor isn't worth the premium, the biggest plus most people seem to talk about is the fact you can beat other users in to a game when online - but you still have to wait for...

    Best non-raid hard drive setup

Ideally, anything you want to do fast needs it's own channel (easy with SATA). For example, my new rig (if I ever get around to building it...) will wave 1 IDE interface which can support 2 drives, but I'll only have a smallish (40-60GB) drive on it which will take the OS. NOTHING else will be...

8800 GTS 320Mb Worth it for casual gamer?

There are games on the market now that are pushing 500Mb+ textures. Of course, irritatingly, I can't remember which ones right now. Defo go for the 640 GTS.

    GeIL Problem

Contact OcUK, as far as I know they handle all RMA's to GeIL (they did mine). They will test the memory for you, if bust they'll send new stuff, if not they'll send it back (and charge you the postage).

    GeIL PC6400C5 800MHz - timings?

Check the packaging, should be on there. If not, try the GeIL website. Should be able to handle 5-5-5-15 easy. With a voltage boost to 2.1, might even take 4-4-4-12.

OCZ vs G.Skill vs GeIL ?

For less than the Geil you can get the OcUK PC8500+ stuff. It doesn't look pretty but it'll fly!

Double sided tape for back plate mounting

The manufacturers of Sellotape do a double-sided sticky foam type stuff that comes on a roll. I used it for hanging photos when I rented a flat and couldn't hammer nails into the wall! It's cheap and strong, should do the trick.

Southbridge cooling - Is it neccessary?

Southbridge will probably not suffer greatly, but personally I'd want some moving air over RAM and especially over HDD as they can get well toasty and are known to fail considerably earlier is they are run hot.
