    HTPC Upgrade

The machine is only powered on (via a IR USB Remote) when running Kodi and running Hyperspin and then is put into hibernation again - so power isn't a major concern. Presumably I'd have to swap to an AM4 socket board with DDR4 RAM to godown that route. Looks like it would be pretty costly - I'm...

    Convert curl script to Powershell

Many thanks for the reply. I’ve installed curl - however when testing my script in it just seems to pull down the content of the Freedns page and my TXT record is not created. Clearly there is something amiss in my syntax - I’ve inputted the dns_cookie correctly and my data_id is set correctly...

    Convert curl script to Powershell

    Hi guys - I've got a curl script I'd like to create an equivalent PS script for Windows machines. curl -b "dns_cookie=XXXXXXXXXX" -d "type=TXT" -d "subdomain=_acme-challenge" -d "domain_id=0000" -d "data_id=0000" -d "address=%22some_text%22" https://freedns.afraid.org/subdomain/save.php?step=2...

    Which Router for small business

Just read up on route based VPN for pfSense - Looks like they dropped support when they moved over to StrongSWAN. That's a bummer as overall it's fantastic software for the most part. Although looks like they are dropping support for older CPU's that don't support AES-NI in 2.5.

SATA 3 Dumb Controller For 850 Pro

Excellent site here https://www.v-front.de/2013/11/how-to-make-your-unsupported-sata-ahci.html which has custom VIB's for quite a few controllers so far. Marvell 88SE9235 is listed.

SATA 3 Dumb Controller For 850 Pro

A 1TB NVMe drive was a little outside my budget - Managed to pickup a couple of 1TB 850 Pro's for cheap. Definitely something I'll be looking at for datastore usage down the line though.

    Which Router for small business

How about a pfSense appliance - their official hardware looks to be fairly reasonably priced for the SMB/SME sector. I can't speak more highly of the software - fantastic. https://store.netgate.com/SG-4860-with-1U-Shelf-pfSense-Security-Gateway-Appliance-P2731.aspx Netgate also offer various...

SATA 3 Dumb Controller For 850 Pro

Cheers BongoHunter - I'm gonna go with Syba SI-PEX40062 as it's based on the Marvell 88SE9235 chipset which provides two PCIe lanes, so should hopefully provide pretty decent performance. Thanks once again.

SATA 3 Dumb Controller For 850 Pro

Hi guys - I'm looking for a SATA 3 controller (doesn't need to do RAID) for a couple of 850 Pro's which I'll be using as an ESXi 6.5 datastore. My board only has SATA 2 ports onboard, hence the requirement for a card. I'll be using a PCIe x16 2.0 slot, and need something to get the best...

    Python Assistance Kodi Addon

Hi guys - I need some help with a Kodi addon (UKTVNOW) - I'd like to modify the addon so that it no longer prompts everytime I select a channel to watch, asking me to choose either HTTP or RTMP for the stream. Essentially I just want to disable the dialogue box altogether and force HTTP...

Incorrect memory utlization for 1 VM Web Client 6.5

I'll keep an eye out on the VMware forums to see if anyone has a solution. I'm betting on us both encountering our first bug in 6.5 ;) - Can't say I'm fully sold on the requirement for the flash client as it's not exactly quick vs the old C# client. Hopefully the HTML5 client will see...

Incorrect memory utlization for 1 VM Web Client 6.5

This is correct - The VM will throw a warning when powering on if a reservation that matches the guest has not been configured. BlizzardX - Yep, same for me. Just since upgrading to ESXi 6.5 and my VCSA has this issue cropped up. I've posted on the VMWare forums, however no one seems to...

Incorrect memory utlization for 1 VM Web Client 6.5

RAMMap shows total active just over 1.5GB out of a total of 8GB. Do you think it's worth updating the LSI 9260-8i Server 2012 R2 drivers? - The current ones are fine (and were perfectly fine under ESXi 6), but wondered if that's a possible issue. P.S - The 9260-8i has the latest firmware...

Incorrect memory utlization for 1 VM Web Client 6.5

Good call - Just checked the HTML5 client and the summary and performance graphs show the same data. I'm starting to wonder if this is some bug related to the LSI 9260-8i being configured as passthrough which seems to only affect ESXi 6.5 and/or VCSA 6.5... I've turned off alarms for the...

Incorrect memory utlization for 1 VM Web Client 6.5

My understanding is that the traditional desktop client is more or less phased out now - meaning the two options for management are the Flash client and HTML5 rather stripped down option. The host has 128GB RAM, and other VM's are not showing this issue. I'm guessing this might be the first...

Incorrect memory utlization for 1 VM Web Client 6.5

Hi - After upgrading my host to ESXi 6.5 and VCSA to 6.5 I have found that one of my VM's shows all memory being utilized in the summary screen and when checking the performance chart for percentage used it displays 100% (This is not the case when checking task manager in Windows) Consequently...

    ESXi Datastore Considerations

Many thanks for the suggestions guys - Yeah, all my VM's are thin provisioned. I ended up with a single 7200rpm drive due to my trusty two 750GB Samsung's failing on me last week (Lasted 6 years) - I just needed something to get things back up and running temporarily. I think I'll just go...

    ESXi Datastore Considerations

Hi guys - I am looking at upgrading the storage on my home ESXi lab. I'm currently running around 30 VM's on a single 7200rpm SATA 3 drive and the performance is starting to become an issue (particularly during Veeam backups of the VM's to a USB drive) The board has an onboard SATA 2 RAID...
