Thank you all very much everyone for your replies. Certainly some interesting reading. I should have already said what my existing setup was at the start. I have my main OS is booting up from a Crucial SSD and the Samsung HDD is what I use for saving my photos and videos. I'm thinking about...

Back up solution for photos & videos

Hi all, Over the years I've saved my photos & videos from my camera and phone onto my now 16 year old Samsung Spinpoint P 250GB hard disk drive. While it has served me well, I know that it will eventually stop working and I should have a back up solution anyway! I know I should have done this...

    Office PC upgrade - £600

Thank you for your reply. I should have said that the case is something that I will require, but I appreciate the spec with saving £100. Do you have any suggestions for a CPU heatsink and if you think it's worth getting an M.2 cooler as well?

    Office PC upgrade - £600

Hi all, I'm looking to upgrade a fairly standard i5 vanilla office PC from 5 years ago that is primarily used for the usual Word processing, spreadsheet etc. duties. The only specific task from the usual "run of the mill" business activities is that it is used for viewing engineering diagrams...

    Dell U2412M - replacement recommendation

Thanks for the replies all. The S2721DS looks nice, unfortunately the Dell website says it won't be available to ship until the 2nd Oct! I think I'll give repairing the existing monitor a bash for a replacement. Are there any other makes from Asus, LG etc. worth recommending in the same price...

    Dell U2412M - replacement recommendation

Hi all, My Dell U2412M has suddenly stopped working. The monitor went blank all of a sudden, and there is no light appearing on the power LED even though there is power coming through the cord. I swapped out the fuse in the plug and changed power cords and still nothing. I suspect its either a...

    System overhall - £650-£700 budget

Will there be much of a performance boost with the new Skylake CPUs and will the new Mobo's not cost a bit more (or are current gen. ones ready for Skylake?). I've got a Windows 7 coming through in the post. I've been using Linux Mint for the last few months after Win XP decided to go all...

    System overhall - £650-£700 budget

Thanks for the advice dacads and Lemin. :) Its a pity that Samsung don't make HDD's anymore. My current drive has served me reliably for the last 8 years. I think I'll go for the option of adding a SSD for my OS too. :) Cheers.

    System overhall - £650-£700 budget

Cheers. So, I'm assuming my 430W PSU is OK then. :-) I'm a bit dubious with having a Seagate HDD. I've heard they aren't as reliable as WD.

    System overhall - £650-£700 budget

    New CPU for video/photo editing

Thanks for the help guys. Its a semi-rebuild I'm going to do. I will pretty much buy everything barring the case (an Antec 430W). I'll also need a new graphics card too as its an AGP. I have a 1TB drive, so drive capacity is not an issue. My budget will between £300-£500.

Eek! What have a started here! :D Well I'm upgrading from an old skool P4 3.2Ghz and will be primarily using the system with Photoshop and video editing for initially transfering old VHS/Hi8 recordings then in the near future digital camcorder. I started a thread on the Graphics card forum...

    New card for video capture

Thanks. That EasyCap device looks interesting. I'm semi-building a new system so I thought I'd look into a card with dedicated video capture features as gaming isn't going to be an issue for me. I should have also said my PSU is a 430W Antec.
