I ended up getting a power colour fighter in the end to go with my new x670 set up. Seems a solid card at least twice as fast as my 5700xt, cool and quiet as well. Quite impressed.

Thanks the clk 36 version of the ram is on qvl. So I took a punt that clk 30 will be fine as well. Will give it a go and see what happens can always send it back.

If it's only changing in specific games check the in game settings. As many games allow you to specify a refresh rate which is not the same as your desktop rate.
