Nevermind, found how to do it. Was a bit stiff to lock it in place. Will this help with pedalling up hills then with this locked on?

How do I lock it? There seems to be a lock lever next to it but pressing it on doesn't keep the lock on, I have to hold it in continuously :-(

I have a GT Transeo bike and I've just noticed a SR Suntour lever next to the gears on the right. Sorry if this is a stupid question, I tested it by pressing it and it locks the suspension, what's this benefit? When would I use it?
