I'd take 4.6 on one of these over 5 with a Sandy any day - nice voltage eyetrip.

Sorry to hear that you've abandoned, eyetrip, but I bet you'll be dissatisfied with the 2500k now. I've knocked back to 4.2 for the fan noise in the warmer days and I still can't get enough of this thing, it's sweet. I have to say that the doubts about the robustness of the C2 stepping have...

    Overclocking an old AMD cpu

Ah, the old 3800s, happy memories. 2 Ghz stock, is that right? I had a few, one golden that did 3.2 GHz on phase-change. Can't remember a damn thing about overclocking 'em though.

Rossi~ that's pretty much identical to mine (tho I have played with the RAM yet so it's at stock). My temps hit around 74 on cores 0 and 5 while the others are up to 10 degrees lower, although I still want to redo the paste. There seems almost no practical difference between the H80 on medium...

    My i7 3930K 3.20 OCing Follow Along!

I have to admit that I stopped my OC at 4.5 because I started playing with other toys like VT-x and VirtualBox with Ubuntu running in it. I fear in our attempts to hit the frequency highs, we sometimes neglect the amazing things you can actually do with the kit - I know I'm guilty of it. I...

Uh... first item in the list? uh.. nvm, thermal you say, hmmm. Looks the same as mine, 1.02.16 ?

    That's a very good result.

    My i7 3930K 3.20 OCing Follow Along!

I find IBT Very High stresses the CPU much much more than Maximum for some reason; could be something specific to my setup, don't know. Could you give it 10 of Very High and check temps? I just tried Custom 8192, that got it hot :)

Yup, your cooling looks good enough and it's stable. I don't know if the vcore will cause degradation but as it's on the absolute max Intel spec, probably not.

Nice, good temps for that voltage.

Hmm, the 38 is quite distinct, but then there are so few of us in the X79 church :) http://valid.canardpc.com/show_oc.php?id=2365102 I originally used CPU-Z 1.59 and saw peak vcore at 1.344 yet with ver 1.60.1 it peaks at 1.301 - que pasa?

Could be a BIOS thing, never seen that on mine. I have BIOS 1010 from early April, maybe you have an old 'un?

    Need Serious help guys please

I'd be more worried about your voltage, tbh. 4.3 is around the 1.25v - 1.26v region for mine, does yours really need all that? Setting aside the Win 7 business, this could be why things are misbehaving.

At my wits end - 3930k help

Well funnily enough, I used to stability-test my old AMD 64 x2 CPUs with Rosetta, it really sorts the men from the boys. It's like the final word on stability; I don't think there were any Rosetta jobs in my last batch from the WCG and I really should try 12 of those :) Thanks for reminding me!

At my wits end - 3930k help

Congrats, that's a very nice voltage for 4.5, better chip than mine. I thought I read somewhere that changing BCLK was very very bad for SB-E and never to do it? When I tried the AI Tune thing on the Asus, I was appalled to see it push BCLK up beyond 106. Soon put a stop to that :)

At my wits end - 3930k help

3930k / H80 / Asus P9X79 Pro here, stock temps range from 26 to 32 idle. At 4.5 / 1500 MHz 1.325 vcore, it idles 27 to 34 and on IBT very high from 63 to 75 peak, but note that 25% LLC brings vcore up to 1.344 occasionally. From what I've read, these are decent ballpark figures, you may do...

    Help OC 3930k on GA-X79-UD5

Nice one! I was running 12 hyperthreads of BOINC earlier with a couple of job graphics up, a bunch of other stuff like CPU-Z and browsers, and playing Eve online with two clients. Didn't miss a beat, didn't go over 65 C. It's got torque, this chip :)

    Help OC 3930k on GA-X79-UD5

Your memory clock has gone up to 2000, probably why. I think you'll find 1666 is an option, try setting memory to that.
