Just to follow up with an update, my local computer shop validated that the card (it's an Inno3D) is indeed faulty, they are handling the warranty return to the manufacturer. Will hear back soon whether they repair, offer a substitute or credit note. Thanks for the help all!

Worth noting Deus EX: Human Revolution was heavily discounted not long after launch too - didn't make it any less of a good game (and it's bloody marvellous) having said that Bioshock Infinite was discounted a lot not long after launch too, and that's in most people's eyes one of the best games...
