    Sony A6400 or Fujifilm X-T30 or ...?

another vote for Fuji. - I had a A6000 and moved to a Fuji X-T2. I have the XF 16-55 lens and just added a Fuji prime. One of the features I love about Fujis is the exposure dials, including aperture rings as standard on the lenses. I found the Sony great as a point and shoot, but the Fuji...

    Editing Software

Capture one offer one-off purchases I believe… What sort of editing are you looking for? Just exposure and colour, or more detailed touch ups ? Afinity Photo is also ok, but it’s more of a photoshop replacement than a lightroom replacement. If you could only pick one, I guess picking a...

    Monitor for photography

It’s a bit of a minefield imo. You have resolution, colour spaces, and brightness (nits) to consider. Personally, I would go with the monitor with the largest colour space coverage, the highest brightness, and the highest resolution. Factory calibration is also something worth considering, I’m...

    Fuji X Series

Reporting back on my experience with the 23 f1.4 WR: my mrs was very happy with the lens. The shots she got with it were excellent. I had a brief play around with it and I found the autofocus to be noticeably faster than the XF 18-55. Based on that I’m pretty sure we’re going to sell the 18-55...

    Fuji X Series

I ended up renting the 23 f1.4 WR LM from fuji on the fuji 7 day loan system, and my partner is testing it on a fashion shoot on the weekend. Taking a couple of test shots around the house, it is a beautiful lens, and a significant step up from my 18-55 kit lens. I think I’ll wait until I have...

    Fuji X Series

Thanks, I was ‘ok’ with the lack of JPG correction. However I overlooked the fact that in-camera the images will look distorted, and I think that means it’s a no-go for my partner. - She shoots and edits in raw, but would rely on reviewing the images in camera during shoots. Thanks so much...

    Fuji X Series

Thank you so much all for the advice - it’s been tremendously helpful. I was looking to spend £300-400, which meant either getting the f2 on Fuji refurb store or the f1.4 R on MPB. Given what you have said about the focusing issues of the f1.4R, I will seriously consider Viltrox, as I can’t...

    Fuji X Series

Has anyone got any experience with the XF 23mm f2 , the XF 23mm f1.4 R or the XF 23mm f1.4 WR LM ? The 1.4 LM is about double the price of what I can get the f2 for, and from the reviews I’ve seen the old 1.4 may not be as crisp or fast focusing as the f2.

    Fuji X Series

I believe XT4+ ( possibly XT3 +) will have the required specs. I don’t deal with video day-to-day so I get a bit lost with Log, colour spaces, and HDR - but this blog explains better than I can Linky . I believe XT3+ can record in 10 bit and log , which I think combined would make something HDR.

    Fuji X Series

Also, DJI have recently bought out the RS3 mini, which is a very reasonable price. - It could allow you to get shots you want with a XT3 or your current XT30

    Fuji X Series

There’s no advertised fix that I’m aware of, and I’m fairly sure my xt2 is on the latest firmware. The issue is with it intermittently stopping recording ( before the 30 min mark). Funnily enough, it mentions the issue in the XT2 manual. It’s the only issue I’ve had with my XT2, albeit it’s a...

    Fuji X Series

Just an FYI , there are issues with recording on the battery grip. I had to resort to using it with a power supply with no batteries in camera or grip. - fine for photos, but there can be big issues with recording.

    Saving old photos

As suggested, - Printed copies, if stored well will outlast anything. With photos, you're probably thinking about 20+ year lifespan of storing these. I wouldn't trust any physical media under my own personal control to guarantee no loss of data. You can get into fancy RAID hard drive arrays...

    Dewalt DCS570N rail guide

I've seen similar DIY guide rails made to what you suggest, where you have a piece of plywood/mdf, with another straight piece of wood secured to it, and the guide rail is made by holding the saw against the secured piece of wood, and cutting the "parent" piece of wood. I'm sceptical about how...

Lga775 upgrade: worth it or not?

ended up getting a q9650, games are a dream now, and are working on high settings at 1080p, the next upgrade would definitely seem to be an SSD, or generally cleaning up the harddrive as opening/closing programs etc is still slow. - overall very pleased

Lga775 upgrade: worth it or not?

cheers for this, I think given the advice i'll go for a 775 quad, and then the next big upgrade will be for new architecture.

Lga775 upgrade: worth it or not?

Asus p5Q pro currently.. I think you're right - about changing rig, ideally i'd like to keep it as close to £100-£120 as possible, does this seem at all possible with second hand mobo and ram?

Lga775 upgrade: worth it or not?

Thanks very much for all the responses, i hadn't realised quite how far the new gen of processors had come, looks like i'll have to save up and get a second hand system or something - If I was going to get a 775 processor I would have only looked to spend £40ish, but obviously i'm prepared to...

Lga775 upgrade: worth it or not?

So, I've got quite an old system, which I use from time to time, but it simply won't cope with new games even on some of the lowest settings. Dual core E2180 @ 2.6ish 4gb ddr2 1gb 6850. Is it worth a go for an lga775 quad core? - if any are still even about? cheers!
