Now in situ compared to the one to be replaced. Initial impressions. Sound quality much better. Screen is good. Swivel initially seems a gimmick but you actually get used to it is good. Shame there is not a native Iplayer app

BBC document on Covid (Health Service) and Racism

So what is racism then if not to assume a person has certain behaviour or characteristics based on their ethnicity. I disagree that any sweeping assumption based on colour is anything other than antagonistic at best. I accept that certain ethnicities may have prevalent norms but one should not...

See my post above about control groups. Some of those factors are socio economic. Obesity and Density are socio economic in my opinion. So they should have looked at a control group in this way (i.e. whites in the same type of areas and incomes) Some of them are a different socio economic (Multi...

I did miss it. The Indian blue looked like the white blue (if that makes sense). So what is your point here then as you have the moral high ground. If it is not socio economic why do the stats show a disparity amongst ethnic minorities compared to the population at large?

We all bring the stats to the party which aid our position. Let's not get on our high horse too much. In the ONS figures only Chinese are above White British and they represent less than 1% of the population. All the others are below White British. Also this ONS report shows that with the...

Badly drawn Venn diagram time. My point is this. The programme showed that overall a non white Ethnicity showed a greater than average chance of Covid. (Z in the diagram). They also said the proportion of X in the diagram that was non white compared to the wider population is greater. The...

I ordered it on the 1st Jan when pre-orders opened. It was supposed to be delivered last Thursday. Then last Thursday I get an email saying 'Sorry, not available until 21st April'. Fast forward to this morning and got an email saying out for delivery today. I'll set it up later and post an 'in...

I assume that is aimed at me. I was using the possibly positive example to avoid articulating the undertones as to why black and south Asians ethnicities are more likely to be in the socio economic group that seems to get Covid more. I am sure though if you asked a Chinese person if the...

I agree with you on the scope creep but you cannot start the discussion until you have ruled out physiological differences. Hence the control group. I would be surprised if it is physiological but it needs ruling out.

This is Racism. The very definition thereof. You are assuming that someone of a certain ethnicity automatically has the characteristics of that group. Even if 99% of Chinese people were above average in maths to assume the one in front of you was is Racism. Why cannot we not discuss the topic...

BBC document on Covid (Health Service) and Racism

If you assume an individual of Chinese ethnicity is good at school and someone from a Gypsy ethnicity is bad just by their colour then that is racism. The whole definition of racism is to assume a wider behavioural trait based on their belonging to a particular ethnic group. Whether the...

BBC document on Covid (Health Service) and Racism

You do get the point that the very definition of racism is to assume certain behaviours or characteristics based on a persons skin colour. Your comment 'cultures of those diverse groups' would seem to demonstrate a belief that if someone belongs to a certain ethnic group then they must have all...

Not at all. For any country to be considered completely colour blind you would expect to see there being no difference in the figures at all given the sample size. Back to the topic of this thread. I made the point before someone took us off topic that it would have been interesting to see the...

You are right that Chinese origin does indeed have high school attainment. See the graph below. However if the UK wasn't institutionally racist you would then expect to see them and other ethnicities out perform White people in the jobs market. However the second graph would seem to show that...

Did I miss a post in between mine and yours? You seem to have jumped a bit from the point I was making. Also you seem to be asserting that the people of colour in this country are lesser skilled immigrants. I struggle to see that as anything other than racist.

I agree with you on this. I watched the programme with what I would like to think is a more open mind than some on here but I think it didn't really answer the question. What it demonstrated with data is that if you are poor and lived in an urban environment then you were more likely to die...

I've seen a few people do this. Aside from the issue you have mentioned are they are other advantages to this? Does it limit your ability to use Alexa etc if they are on different networks (or is it just a different wifi for the same LAN)?

Which is a different sort of insurance again. This time a personal accident or other similar loss of earnings cover. A lot of car insurers will try and sell you various add on policies. Legal expenses, Personal Accident, Gap cover...they all cover different things. Whether they are worth it...
