    LTT called out

I wish I could say I was surprised by this, but Linus' attitude has long since moved from 'make the best video you can' to 'I have employees to pay, get it done' The prototype heatsink thing was astounding, though. That's very likey a criminal offence, nevermind being unethical, callous and...

    Bambu Lab P1S Released

It depends. If you're buying a 3D printer to fiddle about, learn about printers, etc, then the Sovol is a strong choice. It's a more than decent low cost, tweakable printer. The Bambu labs machines are on another planet. They're for people who want to hit the print button and get a super-high...

    Bambu Lab P1P

That's a shame. I wonder if Bambu's support is overwhelmed, they've gone from nothing to a huge presence in such a short time and hiring and training support people is not quick if you do it correctly.

    Bambu Lab P1P

Yes, of course. The error still happened again - but after trying four phones the Bambu app finally worked, the printer did a firmware update and the error hasn't occurred since. So I don't think there was ever anything wrong with the hardware, just a firmware glitch.

    Bambu Lab P1P

Hah, that'll teach me to look more closely! But the toolhead cover is definitely attached...

    Bambu Lab P1P

So, the P1P arrived yesterday. I've been playing with it and it's a bit of a mixed bag. The Bambu app just doesn't work for me at all. Refuses to pair with the printer, throwing a 'not found' error. Tried multiple Android devices, no joy. So I'm limited to printing from SD card right now...

    Bambu Lab P1P

Just got the shipping email for my P1P, yay! Not bothered about the P1S, as I really only print PLA and PETG. And there's going to be a P1P > P1S upgrade kit anyway. There's a guy on twitter showing off his P1P compatible touch-screen. That's something I suspect I'd pay for...

    Bambu Lab P1P

Managed to order a P1P a few days ago with July 15th ship date. I print on a production basis (cases for electronic devices I build) so I'm really hoping the P1P lives up to the 'just works' hype. My main printers right now are Ender 7s and they're... less than wonderful. The price reduction...

    6600xt vs 3060 , 1 month in!

Indeed. And comparisons with modern cards also often make the Vega look worse that it actually is because hardware sites and channels are still using reference Vegas that AMD shipped to them at launch time, with their terrible blower coolers that cause the GPU to frequently throttle.

    ** NEW SAMSUNG ODYSSEY G7/G9 MONITORS 27-49" AVAILABLE TO PRE-ORDER **

It would seem to be a huge downgrade. High resolution, but lower refresh rate, slower response times, worse contrast, worthless HDR, etc. I certainly wouldn't trade my 2020 G7 for the 2021 model.

    Looking for a new monitor - 32" ODYSSEY G7 vs LG 32GP850-B

You're entitled to you opinion, of course. But I use a Samsung G7 every day and absolutely love the curve. I've used 1800R monitors before and felt the curve didn't add much to the experience, not enough to balance out having to get used to it. But 1000R is very different, to my mind it's a...

What do you use your 3d printer for?

They're definitely not toys, although plenty of people treat them as such. My 3D printers (three of them at the moment) are used for actual production. I build and sell retro-computing devices (mostly SD card interfaces) and the printers are used to manufacture cases for those devices. This...

    Monitor recommendations? - 27” IPS 144Hz+ 1ms Response Time (G-Sync compatible) - £300-450 *Not Asus

If you can push the budget a bit, consider the Samsung G7. It has the fastest VA panel on the market and 240Hz refresh.

Poll: Will you be ditching 3900X/3950X for 4900X/4950X

No. My 3600 is fine for now. I don't expect ZEN3 to bring a big enough jump to make it worth upgrading, certainly not when I apparently would have to throw away a perfectly good AM4 motherboard to do the upgrade. I'll check back when DDR5 platforms are on the market.

    USB-C to DVI-D dual link for 1600p

You need an 'active' USB-C adapter that supports dual-link DVI, and honestly I don't think such a thing exists. There are active adapters that convert DisplayPort to DL-DVI, so in theory it is possible to use one of those in conjunction with a USB-C to DP converter. I don't know anyone who's...

Request: Best 4k monitor 32inch for reading

I have both 32" 4K and 32" 1440p monitors on my desk, and I now much prefer the 4K. I was a bit sceptical beforehand, but the extra pixel density does make text look that much more defined and natural. At 1440p the pixel density is just a shade too low, fine for 27/28" but not quite there for...

Request: Best 4k monitor 32inch for reading

I use a Philips 326M6VJRM, which I bought at the end of last year, and have been very impressed with it. I used to use a 32" 1440p monitor, but these days 80% of my time is spent doing text-based work so the higher pixel density is really nice. The panel has excellent uniformity and no obvious...

DVI-D dual link to hdmi or dp cable

People have tried this in the past and mostly got nowhere. Laptops tend to use a small number of standardised video input connectors, but desktop screens generally don't. Even if the controller board and LCD panel use the same physical connector, it's probably wired up very differently and may...

*** The Official Elite: Dangerous Thread ***

Yeah, that's pretty accurate. Despite being personally jaded about ED I'd still recommend it to someone who hasn't played yet, because there is a period early on where it manages to be entertaining. If you can get the game when it's on sale it is probably good value. Anyone who has a VR headset...

*** The Official Elite: Dangerous Thread ***

Yes, for sure. If you want to get the feeling of flying a spaceship in an endless universe, ED in VR is gobsmacking. It's a terrific experience, but unfortunately as a game it is mediocre. I'm disappointed at Frontier's lack of ambition. Depending on shallow exploration and space-trucking was...
