I bought a G75VW-DS71 from USA
It arrived DOA with a shed-load of manufacturing defects
My guess it was a scrap/rework unit that was shipped by accident
IMO G75VW is not ready for sale yet - they are still working out issues with new production facilities
Now I am waiting for M17x R4
Which...
Hi
I am trying to build a very reliable machine for work (business and game software dev)
Not interested in overclocking - just want to avoid downtime and niggles at critical times.
Any comments on this build would be welcome:
(I already have 2 SSDs, 1 for OS and 1 for DATA)
Product Name...
I figured it out, C300 and M4 have:
"sector size" = 512 bytes
"page size" = 4096 bytes
"block erase size" = 512 KiB
using a standard windows 7 offset of 2048 sectors = 1024 KiB
and filesystem allocation unit of 4 KiB means that everything is aligned
even the "block erase size" ...
I thought...
To find the sector size on an unformatted drive use this:
wmic DISKDRIVE get bytespersector, caption
BytesPerSector Caption

512 ST350041 8AS SATA Disk Device

(EDIT) Alienware M17x R4 can support Internal Screen + External HDMI + External MiniDP + External VGA at same time, all showing different desktops (extend desktop mode is no problem)
No Alienware laptops support multiple digital external monitors (with separate desktops)
They output the SAME...
I bought an Asus G75VW-DS71 from excaliberpc.com in california
for £1120 (plus shipping to UK £80)
i7-3610QM + GTX660M (Kepler DX11.1) + 2*750GB HDD + 17.3" 1080p
I switched one HDD for Crucial M4 256GB
There is no import duty on laptops but VAT is payable ...
Given that laptop has...
You are right, I could do some real diagnostics and get to the heart of the issue.
But I will wait until my new PC arrives (and works) first so there is no financial risk to me.
Days lost to this PC have already cost me thousands in lost income.
Thanks for the helpful posts etc.
You guys don't really use your PCs.
You just install windows and a few games.
You don't understand what managing a real workstation is like.
And I am not "business hating" I am stating my position:
- everything I bought from overclockers has had problems or failed way to quickly
- so I will...
you say "reinstall windows" like it takes an hour or two
after windows has reinstalled I need to re-install, apply patches and configure about 150 programs, not to mention dozens of windows tweaks and fixes
last time it was a 40 hour job over 5 days
I decided to learn from my mistakes and...
I think the experiment of buying a cheap PC was a mistake
but it was a also mistake for overclockers to sell it ... as it reflects on them
no sane person would purchase more items from a shop who has only supplied unreliable junk so far
would they?
I stress tested it after installing the mobo
also stress tested the gpu with the fur thing
all checks out fine
The only issues are related to GPU drivers
before this mobo I had to switch from 3870 to GTS250
due to endless VPU recovers and problems with radeon drivers
Once I had a NV...
The purpose of the thread was to see if others had the same experience and whether I was missing a trick.
I never overclock as I want my machine to work reliably and don't need the hassle.
The comment that you can "uninstall catalyst and then reinstall" is totally wrong.
It is common...
Maybe Radeon GPUs are good, but the driver software is NOT
There is no such thing as a WORKING Radeon driver.
Each version has its own bugs ... you have to decide which set of bugs you can live with.
This means the advice "don't upgrade your GPU driver unless you need to" doesn't really...
I used to squat
If we made a mistake and the owners came back we would just move on
We never damaged any property
Once the owner came home at 0200 after trip abroad
and found 8 of us asleep in the house - we explained the situation
and she let us stay the night - next day we cleaned up her...
if you assemble it yourself from a stack of boxed and sealed components ...
the other thing I learnt working in a computer shop is that some companies
pay less and accept a higher level of returns / customer hassle
I negotiated a very good margin with a well known monitor OEM
(this was in the...
I worked at a computer shop once
we supplied the MoD with about £60,000 of custom built PCs
employed a 16 year old to build them
when the delivery trucks arrived all the components had fallen out inside the cases
after that they used a glue gun
