OcUK HQ Motors Meet Take 4 - Cars, Computers & More - Saturday 25th May 2024

Amusingly was discussing the Pre COVID meet at the old OCUK site with a friend only a few weeks ago. I'll make the trip down, F Type R

    Massive Car insurance costs?

I've gone from £600 to a renewal of £1400. The cheapest i can find on the usual comparison sites is £1200, which is incredible annoying. I'll have to spend tomorrow going direct.

Replacing BMW 1 Series E82 head unit

I fitted a DroidUK screen to my E88. Incredibly easy since the original headunit stays in place and a good bit of kit I have to say.

What have you done to your car today?

Took my F Type for its first service in my ownership Thursday. Got it home and checked the oil, turns out it's nicely overfilled. 6.5litre capacity and I've been charged for 7.25litres. There appears to be a difference between the AWD and RWD capacity. To be fair to Jaguar, they're sending...

Getting insurance for my 18 year old lad, he's just passed his driving test.

Toyota Aygo/Citroen C1/Puegeot 107 were the cheapest things to insure when the other half passed her test 4 years ago. Ended up spending 2k on an Aygo just while she started driving as it was cheap, something she wasn't overly keen on doing because an Audi A1 was much cooler. 4 years later...

What have you done to your car today?

Had 4 pin dents removed by a local company in Stoke. Didn't realise how manual and skill based it still was, just assumed nowadays you stuck a big old plunger on and pulled it right out. Apparently not! Wheel refurb next and the fingers crossed I should be finished for the foreseeable.

    Rattan/Fake Rattan furniture, where from?

Had mine 5 years ago now from Maze Living. Holding up very well - they are more expensive, and frankly ridiculous for things like sunloungers, but their sofa sets seem excellent.

    Show Us Your Motors!

After having it a month, decided it was about time I gave it a polish. Absolutely chuffed with it. Edit* Imgur wasn't playing ball

    **Unofficial Tyre Thread**

Looking for new tyres and I've noticed that the Yokohama V107 is now available - At a decent bit cheaper than the Relevant offerings from the most common premium manufacturers. When it's predecessor was released, the v105, they were brilliant in both wet and dry and I happily burned through 2...

    Help me spend ~40k

Apologies all for doing what seems like a Post and run - It's been one of those weeks! Sorry if I wasn't overly specific in the OP. Basically looking for a sporty/special feeling car before sensibilities have to set in. The AM vantage has always been an utter dream car of mine, then along came...

    Help me spend ~40k

Thanks for the input Unfortunately deep down I feel the same as others. The having been in a 2.0T Boxter and a 2.5T Caymen it showed the 718 gen are immensely capable cars. But I agreed with some others, I feel they've lost something somehow by dropping the 6 cylinder in all but their GTS and...

    Help me spend ~40k

Morning all, The last time I did this 5 years ago with a different budget, it turned out to be incredibly helpful and sent me looking at cars I hadn't even considered. So here we go again. Now I've finally gotten the double(ish) garage I've wanted, it's time to put something in there. 2 car...

Lila Connect - VX Fibre 1gig - Stoke on Trent

Spent all morning with terrible connection, lag through the roof for gaming. Reset the SDD with a simple On/Off and haven't been able to get back online since. Kindof annoying how there's nobody to contact over the weekend and you have to wait until Monday to get someone, unlike the larger ISP.

    The nervous wait to exchange....

Had an update that the final searches are due back October 16th and then we can crack on and actually get closer to exchanging. Can't believe it will have taken 2 months to get the local search sorted, it's the only one were still waiting on. Fingers crossed.

    The nervous wait to exchange....

Just joined the band wagon, right at the start. House took 4 days to sell, 17 viewers booked in 24hours and 9 offers in the end. Markets mad.

2nd hand car for 18 year old

Toyota Aygo Citroen C1 Peugeot 107 Same car wearing different clothes. Great car for a first time driver. Cheap to buy, cheap to insure and cheap to tax. The Mrs purchased an Aygo for her first car, to run for a year before she got something 'Nicer'. Three years later, the Aygo is still here...

Lila Connect - VX Fibre 1gig - Stoke on Trent

Had my install done today. All in all took around 2 hours. Getting 1gig up/down using their speed test tool on their site so rather happy for £30.

Lila Connect - VX Fibre 1gig - Stoke on Trent

£9.99 to Lila for line rental, then £19.99 to Lila again as the ISP. 18 month contract. When I cancelled virgin, they basically said they didn't believe the deal was real. Obviously busy as it's a 5 week wait for an install slot. Reading the LILA FAQ's it mentioned that the installers will...
