HDR content starts dark, then flickers into life

No newer firmware available sadly... and the TV is out of warranty. Though given the consistency with which it happens it seems more like a software issue than a hardware one?

Treating a newish deck (oil vs stain)

Not sure if you're asking me or Abyss, but in case it was me: Not sure I'm afraid, it was done as part of a much larger set of work we had done to rip out and replace the entire outside of our house!

Treating a newish deck (oil vs stain)

Just under a year ago we had a new deck put in the garden. It was untreated and we were advised to let it settle for a few months and then treat it. Evidently, we got a little distracted and forgot about it. So I've come to treat it now and found it was coated in green sap from the tree above it...

Coolant leak, first head gasket replaced, now engine?

Yep definitely, they made this offer at the end of the last call, so just making sure I'm armed with as much info as possible for when they call back with an engine price. From what I can remember, they said there was no sign of coolant / oil mixing

Coolant leak, first head gasket replaced, now engine?

Apologies, I did indeed mean a glow plug. I've read online a fair few times about EGR issues, this may indeed be something to look at. They have mentioned doing several pressure tests, on what, I have no idea. I doubt anybody is going to give me anything near what it's worth given its...

Coolant leak, first head gasket replaced, now engine?

My 2009 Leon FR 2.0TDI started leaking coolant right before it was due to have its cambelt done for a 2nd time (120k miles). I took it for the cambelt and told them it was leaking coolant so they could have a look. Attempt 1: Cambelt, water pump & full service: £510 After this, the car was...

Gigabyte motherboard not recognising Dell PERC 6i card

Tried a GPU but still no change :( Starting to think that the combination of this card and this board just doesn't work for some reason... I'm just hoping it's not the same across the whole chipset...

Gigabyte motherboard not recognising Dell PERC 6i card

Hmm, seems the tape mod is only useful for systems unable to boot due to the presence of the PERC card, whereas my issue is that the board doesn't detect the presence of the PERC card? Annoyingly I don't have a GPU to hand here, but I will grab an old one and try it, thanks :)

Gigabyte motherboard not recognising Dell PERC 6i card

I have changed "Storage boot option control" and "Other PCI devices" both to "Legacy" but sadly still the PERC card is not detected :(

Gigabyte motherboard not recognising Dell PERC 6i card

I have a nice new Gigabyte B360M-D3H motherboard, and have fitted to it an old Dell (LSI) PERC 6i RAID card. The card isn't recognised in the BIOS as a storage device and no prompts come up during boot (normally a length initialisation process would come up). I have tried: - Using the RAID card...

Best way to watch 4K HDR content via Plex

The Fire stick is definitely a great budget friendly option, but pails in comparison for compatibility for the higher end audio / video support to the Shield, and in my experience has always felt very sluggish to use? I may look at getting one for a secondary room however, as a media-only box...

Best way to watch 4K HDR content via Plex

Decided to go for an Nvidia Shield :) Do now have the dilemma of either upgrading the AV Receiver or finding a workaround though... options I can see: 1. Upgrade the AV Receiver (~£300) 2. Split the HDMI cable coming out the Shield, run 1 into the existing AV Receiver to do the audio, and run...

Best way to watch 4K HDR content via Plex

Interesting, I wasn't aware you could get an Apollo box so cheap (especially compared to my custom jobby that the above price was from)! That said, there's no mention of HDR, HDMI 2.0a+ or HDCP 2.2, so not sure it would really fit the bill here... though there may be some around that do, I shall...

Heating won't turn off on schedule, but will manually

We have a fairly modern non-combi (put in before we bought the place) setup with separate control pad and thermostat. We've been having a few issues with the heating and I've now realised that the heating isn't turning off when scheduled to. For example: - Heating comes on at 1PM as scheduled...

Best way to watch 4K HDR content via Plex

Spent some time looking at it and it's looking like the Nvidia Shielf & Plex server combo is going to be the one I go for. I really liked the Minix Neo U9-H but the iffy details on HDMI2.0a and HDCP2.2 kill it outright - I'm not looking to switch again soon. I priced up upgrading the HTPC and...

Best way to watch 4K HDR content via Plex

I know, I'm amazed this is still so complicated... Has anybody used Plex on one of these Android boxes? I'm concerned that the bootup process might be to wait for the Android box, then have to manually pick an app, where currently I just wake my HTPC from sleep and it launches MediaPortal all in...

Best way to watch 4K HDR content via Plex

This is a really interesting option... £99 for a standalone Android box that can (presumably) run Plex, and it seems to support 10 bit 4K@60fps... almost seems too good to be true... EDIT: Looks like I may need the slightly more expensive Minix U9-H for HDR support (£139)

Best way to watch 4K HDR content via Plex

UPDATE: Bought an Nvidia Shield! See this post. I currently have an ageing setup involving a Sony AV Receiver, custom HTPC and MediaPortal, all of which max out at 1080p. I've recently upgraded to a 10 bit, HDR ready 4K TV, and so want to start getting the best out of it. The way I see it, I...

Using an ATA adapter to connect traditional landline phones to a VOIP connection

My company have moved into a short-term office (~2 months) during which time we'll need to use a VoIP phone line rather than our previous traditional phone line, which used a Panasonic cordless base station that then connected wirelessly to 4 cordless phones around the (small) office. The...
