OK so just got the CPU installed with the Thermalright Peerless Assassin 120.
On Cinebench the temperature topped out at 73°c and frequency sitting right at 4200mhz with a score of 13624.
On Prime Small FFT test it went to 90°c within 30 seconds with the frequency fluctuating between 4060mhz...
If you can suggest an air cooler for less than £43 that has better cooling then I am all ears but I looked up reviews and the Thermalright essentially beats or matches virtually every other Air cooler including some over £100 except in the most extreme cases and even then does fine particularly...
Yea, I dont think that matters at all. It just seems stupid to worry about 2 degrees when all I need is it to keep the CPU cool enough which it will without an offset mount.
Thanks, I have no budget as such, just want value for money and something that will work. This is for a Christmas present for my son and the less I spend on the cooler the more I can spend on other gifts.
I am looking for an Air Cooler for the 5800X3D I bought in the OC Sale a few weeks ago. Currently have a Ryzen 5 2600 with the stock cooler which is not good enough for the 5800X3D. There obviously will be no overclocking. Doesnt matter what it looks like as it will be in a closed, metal sided...
Hi All,
I was wondering if OCUK have a Holiday Returns Policy. I am looking to buy a gift but it will not be opened until Christmas day and many retailers offer extended returns this time of year but I cannot find anything on OCUK.
Thanks
I think if you are buying all new then this is good advice but if you have an existing AM4 system then there is no reason to not upgrade to the most suitable CPU for your use case. If you do a lot of productivity then it still makes a lot of sense to get one of the high core count 5000 series...
Hey all, thanks. I really appreciate the advice. It seems the consensus is get something better to help future proof and I kind of wish I could but I'm really just looking for the best value CPU to pair with the RTX 3080 right now because my current budget doesn't really allow spending a lot...
Yea if that is the case it can make sense but for me I will upgrade CPU and GPU at the same time when my system is no longer capable and because AM4 is end of life this will be the last upgrade I do with this motherboard and by the time I am ready to upgrade my GPU again I will want a board with...
If you upgrade often and plan on upgrading your GPU more often and/or sooner than your CPU that may make sense but I will be keeping this system as is for 4 years or more so there is no advantage to a faster CPU if everything I play now will be GPU bound with the 5600.
Well the High end GPU makes sense, the High end CPU doesn't IMO. Even the 5800X3D shows no significant advantage at the resolutions I am playing at so why spend more?
I have contacted them and they said not until a New Bios is released for it. I suspect it is a canned answer and they are just looking at the support list and it will probably work but I will wait just in case.
