    Sharepoint 2013 - really need 24GB RAM?

Yes I would say so - SQL will tend to expand and use all RAM available. It's nothing to worry about, just how it uses resource.

    Sharepoint 2013 - really need 24GB RAM?

Do you have SQL on the same box/vm?

    Sharepoint 2013 - really need 24GB RAM?

Sorry - I should have been clearer. I was writing from my mobile. The online pricing shouldn't put you off. I suspect you are in a similar position to us with licensing - we have ours heavily discounted. But PLEASE, do not underestimate the behemoth that SharePoint is. You may very well be...

    FOPE

Yep we moved from a Spam assassin setup. Very pleased. Pointed directly at our exchange box. Technet has great resources for explaining the setup. Give me a shout if you'd like a hand.

Questions re deploying and managing tablets

As with another thread we use AirWatch for this and we love it.

    Mobile Device Management BYOD?

AirWatch. Brilliant solution. Also have SCCM here but we went with a proper MDM solution and we retain SCCM for desktop management.

    Enterprise WLAN

Wireless. ARGH! Doing this at the moment and if I've learned anything it's that wireless is a complete nightmare. All vendors think they are best, it's very difficult to stress test equipment because of the scale. However, be keen to make them fight one another for your custom. So far I've...

    Sharepoint 2013 - really need 24GB RAM?

This. CapEx days are over for most of us. OpEx is where the future's at. That said, I'd be wary of scrimping where SharePoint is concerned. It has the ability to quickly turn into the elephant in the room.

    ***There are jobs here***

Anyone know of any home based consulting roles available? Foundation ITIL Certified, SCCM experience, CCNA trained, AD, Server 03/08, Exchange 2003,7,10, SQL Server. Originally from a SW Dev background (.NET) so very varied experience. Currently employed as an IT Manager, but would like a more...

    SFlow

Has anyone managed to find a template that can do SFlow monitoring in Cacti or has another similar monitoring solution? Procurve network - have PCM+ but it's painfully sluggish :(

    Mount Points and SQL

You need disks and IPs per instance. So multi-instance requires multiple disks and multiple cluster IPs. You should think about the instance as the cluster, rather than the physical nodes. Hope that helps?

IT workers, what was your first job?

HAHA - That is my fault! I was searching for something and should learn to read the post dates carefully! :)

IT workers, what was your first job?

Agreed - I suppose my point was, we have 'junior' roles which require some experience. Some organisations have the capacity to train people and throw resources at their staff, but not all do. Some need to take people who can do the job from day one. There are roles at the very bottom which don't...

IT workers, what was your first job?

If there's anything I've picked up in this industry it's that experience is key. I struggle to find staff with good experience for some more junior roles. Many folks with degrees who know very little of an enterprise environment want to jump the queue (I was the same). Some will get lucky and...

    Point to Point Fibre

South Wales. Interesting - can I do layer 3 over that? Interestingly, the p2p doesn't cost much more than you're pointing out as the distance is not all that great really.

    SCCM OS Deployment

I've worked with SCCM for 4 years - initially we just did s/w deployment but we moved to OS deployment. What you MUST do is take time to set up your environment properly. Driver Packages, your network, distribution points properly placed, servers adequately sized etc. We have many thousands of...

    Equallogic SAN design? Opinions?

Veeam with EQ here - SAN based - very good. No problems. Reliable. I rarely get any backup failures. My only problem with Veeam - and I know people say that tape is on the way out, but it is valid for us - is that it doesn't do integrated tape backup. We to D2D and then D2T which is a bit...

    Point to Point Fibre

Thanks all - I got a price from Eclipse who are part of KCom. I'll give Geo and convergence a ring when I get a moment. From experience does there tend to be a large difference in pricing between suppliers? I'm only looking for ballpark figures at the moment - we're planning for a merger.

    Point to Point Fibre

We are looking to get some point to point connectivity put in place (100Mbit or 1Gig depending on cost). I've got some initial indication of cost from BT - can anyone recommend alternative suppliers I can offer the opportunity to? Radial distance of approx 5 miles, A and B ends at different...
