Hmm, good read that, thanks for posting!
I'm still going to hang on to my 4870x2 for the time being though as I cannot justify the upgrade expense, even with those added benefits of the new series. Gonna wait some more and see what the NV response is and what the 5870x2 looks like!
That's...
Why not treat yourself to the Arctic Cooling Accelero Xtreme? I've just put one on mine and it's totally silent with idle temps at mid 30's and load of 60's.
A competitor site has it for £38 inc - gotta be the cheapest cooling solution for this beast.
I had one on my i7 920 at 4.2GHz - no probs at all, I only changed to the Corsair H50 to get some additional room for a poss future upgrade to 12Gb of RAM as the Noctua was covering the first slot on the mobo.
If you want to do any serious overclocking then I'd also say +1 to Gaidin's list - the Fenrir is a good cooler but it can be very loud at full whack - you pay for quiet and you pay for quality.
Nice scores there Rich - guess I'm going to go down in the rankings as my global scores suffer with the new radeon series.
LOL at giving Rich LN2 to play with :D - It's a nice idea but he'd never get any systems built... and can you imagine the threads along the lines of "my OC'd bundle won't...
Sticking with my 4870x2 as it's still up there with the 5870 in quite a few of the benchies, although once drivers mature I'm sure the 5870 will pull away, but for the money all I'd benefit from would be dx11 support and lower power consumption... a no brainer for me really. Gonna wait and see...
I agree with JonJ - I have a dual core laptop and am using a Vertex with Win7 - it absolutely flies and is so much better than with the old mechanical HDD.
If you have a decent spec laptop then a decent level of SSD would really help it to shine.
Damn shame they didn't as I doubt I would have bought them if not for that - I have left a remark in the Cust Service forum asking that they do amend the description.
Hmm, all this talk of high static pressure fans... I succumbed and have today taken delivery of a couple of Akasa Apache's to swap out with my Noctua P12's that I'm currently using.
Anyone else with these Apache's read the back of the box they come in?
OcUK are advertising these as having...
I am using my Noctua on another build - so I needed a replacement and wanted to go water - and before anyone says... I know this isn't what might be considered true water cooling by many here, but it's the best option for the money according to the many reviews and user opinions I've read. And...
I have just swapped out my Noctua for the H50 - check my thread here as that might give you some idea.
Bear in mind though that I used the two Noctua P12 fans for the H50 and also that testing is so ar limited to first impressions only, but based on others findings here I would say that it's...
If you are not OC'ing yet then you may as well start with the stock fan and see how temps look with that. As and when you decide to OC you might then want to beef up your fans to give better cooling - it will depend on a lot of things though, such as what the airflow inside your case is like and...
That is exactly what it is. You'll see that some i7 air coolers (like the Noctua) come with a pair of fans for just that reason although the benefit of a second fan on air coolers is qustionable, most reviews tend to suggest maybe a degree or two of temp drop with a second fan, so hardly worth...
I'm very interested in one of these to replace my Noctua on my i7 - what's the current thinking on the fans? I read that Corsair say the fan should draw air from outside the case hence making that rear fan an inlet... is this what people here would recommend or use a push/pull as an exhaust?
Although it isn't a breeze getting RAM to run at 2000MHz it is quite straightforward - I have the Gigabyte UD5 and on this board it's simply a case of playing with some voltages and getting it to run stable at BCLK 200 with a 10x RAM Multi, and all other settings required for my 4.2GHz OC. Not...
