Coldplay - Mylo Xyloto - What the actual

It sounds like it does because it is heavily compressed along with being very very badly recorded. Coldplay is one of the most consistent bands for fully embracing the "loudness wars" They also didn't bother doing a proper digital to analogue re-master for the vinyl version, hence both the cd...

That looks a very nice and tidy "man cave" You do know though that the usual suspect will be along to tell you that you need at least 4 subs and a bigger telly.............don't you ? :D

I'm afraid that your description is an often held misconception. Just because a deck is constructed with a high mass does not give it "deeper sound". If we take Nottingham and Rega as examples, Rega is low mass and Nottingham is high mass and both are rigid turntables. Two different design...

I have had the Orbe SE since 1998 and have only ever had one other deck at home to run comparisons against, that was Rega Planar 10. The Rega was a very very good deck, but just didn't "grab" me as much as the Orbe. I was fully expecting to be bowled over by it and was, just nowhere near as much...

The turntable is a Michell Orbe SE, a very early one with the AC motor. I loved it when it was released, so i bought it :D. The arm is an SME V with a Dynovector DV-20X2 cartridge. The Viking is actually sounding better and better day by day. I was blown away by it when i first heard it and am...

While you are keeping that eye out for a Stage Line, you had better keep the other out for a Flatcap XS :) Because it is the very least you will need to power a Stage Line.

Yep, that very much is a bargain. Years ago i also had a nait 5i (italic), just checked on the auction site and i sold it for £397.

This is also the last CD player i will ever buy. It's a Hegel Viking to replace my already very good Naim CD5 XS. It really had to be done as CD transports for the CD5 XS are no longer available. The Viking is in a completely different league to the Naim and when you do a side to side comparison...

    Masters of the Air 2023

There is every point in taking a free trial. Even if you find you don't like it, i would be gobsmacked if you don't like Slow Horses. My free trial comes to an end next month, but i fully intend to renew when the next series of Slow Horses starts.

Vinyl or stick with .FLAC library?

Hi Fi is and always has been a minefield along with a potentially bottomless money pit. But let's get the question of the cost of LP's themselves out of the way first. I'm 66 years old and bought my first LP in 1974, the average cost of a new LP then was about £5. That same £5 then is worth £65...

Aliens, The Abyss, True Lies and Titanic finally get digital and 4K Blu-Ray release dates

Both Aliens and The Abyss should be in stock at a cool place on the 29th of April. I think if both are ordered at the same time they will likely be shipped together from Scandinavia.

Connecting my TV to bookshelf speakers - I'm out of touch

If you set your TV to output sound via Optical and set optical to PCM on the TV as well, the answer is yes. The TV speakers will be muted by the TV when you set it to output optical.

    2022 QD-OLED thread

I know it might seem a silly question, but you did remove the protective screen film ? I ask because when i bought my G2 a couple of years ago it looked like it had no screen film on it. It wasn't until a few weeks latter that i noticed it peeling from one edge. I felt like a complete numpty :D

G.INP has finally been enabled on all FTTC lines (including ECI) in Feb 2024!

Yep, far too late to the party. I suspect in the vast amount of cases G.INP is only going to be of any use to people in areas that have very little chance of getting access to an FTTP provider for years to come, if ever.

    Freely TV

That's my guess as well. In fact the cynic in me thinks this whole app was conceived with the express idea of gaining TV license payers in an attempt to recover lost revenue.

I'm guessing that is the reason as well. Also, not once has Horner's name even been mentioned, even just a passing mention.
