Max settings at 1440p uses all 16 GiB VRAM for me.

The primary reason to undervolt IMO is to reduce power draw and heat output, and therefore lower fan speeds and reduce noise. I get ~5% more performance in benchmarks, which is minor, but it also uses around 18% less power, which is huge.

FWIW, I have that card with a 5800X3D and a 700W 14 year old PSU and so far no issues. I do undervolt though to reduce power draw and heat.

Does anyone know of any games or benchmarks that actually show any improvement from increasing VRAM frequency or changing VRAM to fast timings? Haven't found one that shows any difference so far.

It looks like the 'real' /affordable RDNA3 + next gen NV desktop launch won't launch until September. Thoughts?

The 7800 XT will be 6900 XT performance at £550, mark my words. :D

Bit the bullet on a pair of 6800 XTs. Loving them so far. Big upgrade for my wife who was running 1440p144 with an RX 480...but she still doesn't notice the difference. :D

I have zero interest in frame insertion and AMD have said FSR 3 will work for RDNA2 cards anyway so I'm not that worried.

6800 for £430 is tempting. If it had 16 GB of VRAM, the 4070 at £600 plus Diablo IV would be on its way to me as we speak. :/ It'll be annoying to wait for the 7800 (XT) then find it offers no improvement in perf/£ or perf/W compared to the 6800.

If you want more than 8 GB for a 1080p card I guess the 6700 XT is the best option still. Sounds like AMD may have finally solved the high idle power usage issue with a recent beta driver, in which case a 7900 XT or 7800 XT is likely coming my way, depending on the latter's perf & £.

What do we think the price structure will be? 7600 XT = £350 7700 XT = £500 7800 XT = £600? I was originally thinking of getting a pair of 7800 XTs but it depends on performance given the £750 price point of the 7900 XT. Power might factor in too since I have now idea what rating my wife's PSU...

Server & network equipment: utility room, loft, or garage?

Thanks for all of the replies. I'm going to go with the garage. I'll put the networking stuff and UPS in a 6U wall mounted cabinet and I'll get the FTTP installers to put the modem in there too once it's avaialble (next year ish). I wanted a 50cm deep one as 45cm would've been cutting it fine...

Air con multi-splits: which of 2 approaches is better?

Yes I understand that, but how low can this realistically go without affecting efficiency? Say one indoor unit only requires ~1kW to sustain temperature from a 9kW rated outdoor unit. Would that be much less efficient than an indoor unit requiring ~1kW from a 3kW outdoor unit? Seems to be...

Air con multi-splits: which of 2 approaches is better?

This is very confusing because even recent articles and posts mention how multisplits are much less efficient when not all the indoor units are being used. Are they really all talking about non-inverter units? I thought those weren't even sold any more. If I understand correctly, longer pipe...

Air con multi-splits: which of 2 approaches is better?

Can you explain why outdoor units have minimum power ratings if they only run at the load demanded? E.g. it might say "4.0 to 9.0kW" (can't remember exact numbers). I assumed that means it will always provide 4 kW of cooling even if only 2 kW is demanded (with 2 kW wasted). The way the house is...

Air con multi-splits: which of 2 approaches is better?

I'm planning to get air con in my new house. Use cases are: Cold snaps: Top-up heating in conservatory during day and kids' bedrooms (2 & 3) at night Summer: Cooling in conservatory on weekends/holidays, cooling in office (bedroom 4) on weekdays Heatwaves: Cooling in lounge & conservatory on...

Server & network equipment: utility room, loft, or garage?

I wonder if it's feasible to build a large ish wooden enclosure (or buy some basic Ikea equivalent) and then inside that put a standard 4U network cabinet for the switch/patch panel? My server could then sit in the enclosure, benefiting from a bit of protection from creatures etc.

Server & network equipment: utility room, loft, or garage?

In my previous house, I kept my network equipment and server under the stairs. It got a bit hot during heatwaves but otherwise never got too hot and had excellent noise isolation. My new house has no under-stairs cupboard so I have a few options for storing this stuff: the (attached) garage, the...
