    Oxford University Interview...Tips?

I study at Oxford but not Chemical Engineering. If the interviews are anything like mine then both with be mostly technical and academic. Motivations for choosing the subject and Oxford are also important, but any conversation about extra-curricular activities will not carry great weight unless...

    Anyone shop at Aldi?

I can't be bothered with Aldi any more. It is very hit and miss and often they will not have some of the hits I go in for. Have to queue for a long time and won't take credit card.

    Ovivo gone forever

I have moved to the Talkmobile £7 a month deal for now. 10p more than the Three one but buys you more minutes and a rolling renewal so I can leave for a better deal later. Less texts but with Whatsapp and Facebook Messenger 500 is plenty for myself.

Royal Mail to be floated on stock exchange

Got out at 437 earlier today, I have little expertise in trading so decided to get out and be happy with the substantial profit. One thing is for certain, I would be reluctant to ever trade with HL as their handling of this has been farcical. I spent an hour trying to trade in which time the...

    *breaking news* Boston Marathon explosions

Just more speculation but the '2 hour late' timing could have been deliberate to minimize non-american casualties at an international event. I don't know much about marathons but I assume the international runners who go all the way to Boston are likely to finish earlier than domestic...

    *breaking news* Boston Marathon explosions

NY Post has been fairly inaccurate with stuff like death toll (they were reporting 12 for a long time) so I question it's accuracy elsewhere.

Raspberry Pi - $35 Linux computer

I thought I would update on my success with raspbmc. From my experience the speed of the flash drive used makes a big difference. On the super overclock (950mhz) with a old flash drive (~15-20MB read) the posters and fanart were slow, I tested all my drives with CrystalDisk and found one that...

Would you move to a new build

I have lived in a new build for 10 years. I would avoid doing so again. It may not be common to all new builds but ours came with a lot of problems due to poor workmanship and materials. We snagged and snagged, waiting years for resolutions and in the end lost patience and put up with a...

How would you fix the economy?

Does anyone know of any good articles on the net impact of reducing our defence spending? If we cut our defence budget and focused solely on defence of our territory, would we see a net gain or loss? Most of our interventions abroad are probably calculated risks to benefit our country in some...

    Good vodka to drink straight

I have tasted a few including many Polish vodkas and personally I still find Russian Standard to be the smoothest with just the right amount of 'spice' (how to describe the flavour/sensation of straight vodka?).

Raspberry Pi - $35 Linux computer

I have mine running Raspbmc from a usb drive. Does anyone else experience a bit of lag loading the poster and fan art when browsing a movie library? I scroll through the library and it is ok for maybe 10 movies and then on the next one it will show the previous artwork for 5 seconds before...

    Stress and your body...

My acne has a tendency to flare up when I get a bad set of deadlines which I may be due to stress.

    What would you do?

I'd hope I would jump on the bad guys head in such a situation, as others have said. Or maybe grab that fire extinguisher and batter him with it. In reality I'd probably stand there shocked for a bit like most of these people then probably shout for help whilst watching the door close.

Porridge, how do you take yours?

At university right now so I put cheap oats in a mug, cover with boiling water, take a shower and then eat them like that.

    Online maths A-level

With a degree in economics I think you would be okay to just buy some textbooks and use free online resources. Maybe if you contact your local college you can arrange to sit the exams there as an external candidate for a fee.

    Windows 8 who's buying/upgrading

Got Win8 a few weeks back, I don't like metro although I have not given it much of a chance as I have been very busy. Still liking Win8 though, using classic shell and it gives me pretty much the same experience as Win7 but with 10 second bootups and other speed perks.

    Jessops in administration

It's pretty sad but I am also guilty of only browsing the high street. This leaves only Argos, charity shops, McDonalds, pawn shops, pound-shops, empty units and public service pop-ups on my high street.

    Minor Things That Bother You

I work holidays in a shop on the checkouts. It really annoys me when a queue builds up and some people make it clear to you how annoyed they are to wait and then you tell them the total and the same people fumble in their handbag/pocket for ages counting change or finding the right card.
