Improving performance of a wireless bridge

Thanks for the info. The access points (Tenda W306R's) are "N" rated, and I checked and found that the unit would work withouth antenna 1, but seemed totally reliant on antenna 2 - without that it wouldn't work at all. Presumably, that would be the one that would benefit most from a directional...

Improving performance of a wireless bridge

Hi, I've got a pair of access points operating as a wireless bridge, and would like to boost the signal, particularly of the remote access point, to improve connectivity. The local access point broadcasts wifi signal in its area, so I'm guessing a directional antenna probably isn't...

Graphics Card recommendation please - £200-£250 budget

Give or take, yes. It doesn't go full-screen in that mode, so it's actually a window dragged large across both monitors, so if you take a handful of pixels off the width for the window border, and a bunch more off the height for the window's title bar, and the task bar, then you are pretty much...

Graphics Card recommendation please - £200-£250 budget

That's good to know - I suppose order of magnitude was pushing my luck, but I wanted to be sure that I'd see some sort of improvement. :) Now I just need to choose which one (and get my post count up to 100 so I can get free shipping - when did the rules change, I've had free shipping before...

Graphics Card recommendation please - £200-£250 budget

I think I'm going to stick with a single card for now. As AlexHull24 says, that's gives me an upgrade path in the future (when the prices will be much cheaper for an out of date card). The 5850 cards seem to be all very similar spec-wise, so presumably it's a case of getting a decent brand...

PSU Advice : ModXStream 600W or Silencer 610W

Just realised I didn't up date this thread at the time - to be fair to OCZ, they ended up swapping it out for a Z850M power supply, so although I had to wait a few weeks, I did end up with a higher spec PSU than I started with. Perhaps I would give them another chance next time I need to get...

So, what's the difference between all the different Asus 5850s then? I'm guessing the DirectCU is a cooling/voltage thing, but what's the "TOP" relate to? Cheers, Steve.

You may have a point, but it's the "yet" that's the issue. I don't want to be kicking myself in 6-8 months time wishing I'd gone for a DX11 card. Cheers, Steve.

If I went for two 5770 (my board is Crossfire capable) is it a black art to set it up, or is it just plug and go? I'm afraid my days of spending hours and hours tweaking and tuning are long gone. :D The 5850 does look pretty sweet. Cheers, Steve.

Graphics Card recommendation please - £200-£250 budget

Hi, For my birthday, my wife is prepared to allow some frivilous expense. I recently got a pair of 24" monitors, and my 8800GT doesn't perform quite as well as it used to at such high resolution (I like playing Live For Speed, but I've had to turn off some of the AA to get it to run...

PSU Advice : ModXStream 600W or Silencer 610W

Looks like I might be stuffed. The options are to take one of the two 600/610W PSUs, or a wait for a month or more because they have no stock. Looks like the "PowerSwap" stuff is marketing waffle - I won't be hurrying back to purchase OCZ kit in future unless they sort this out soon. Cheers...

PSU Advice : ModXStream 600W or Silencer 610W

So I shouldn't be put off by the 80mm fan? It's pretty much silent in operation? I do get the impression that the OCZ PSU's are a bit more "glitzy", and the PCP&P are more of a electrically well-engineered option for people who are interested in a PSU delivering power, rather than looking...

PSU Advice : ModXStream 600W or Silencer 610W

Hi, I had an OCZ GameXStream (GXS) 700W PSU that was starting to make funny noises from the fan, so I managed to get it RMA'd to OCZ (which cost £30 to ship to the Netherlands!). As they say they are out of stock of the GXS700, they are offering me the choice of two other PSUs: - OCZ...

    AOC L27W551T @ 1280x768?

Definitely sounds as though PowerStrip might give you a bit more control. Certainly worth considering anyway. Cheers, Steve.

    AOC L27W551T @ 1280x768?

What rate does the OSD say it's running at when you have it at 1280x768? Mine still says 1024x768 @ 60Hz - it might be worth trying PowerStrip (it's free to try), and see if you can get 1360x768 out of it. I think some of my problem was that the Intel drivers wouldn't accept any of the...

    AOC L27W551T @ 1280x768?

For anybody who finds this thread at some point in the future, I've managed to get it working. Using PowerStrip, and choosing the predefined "1280x768 Analogue Panel" setting, the TV does display at 1280x768 (although the on-screen display still recognises it as 1024x768). I haven't had a...

    AOC L27W551T @ 1280x768?

Yeah, I hear what you are saying. I've not been able to find any specific reference, it's just that I feel as though it should work. In addition to the reference that it works through the VGA socket at 1280x768, it seems to handle HDMI ok, it reports "1280x768 @ 60Hz" on-screen, not "out...

    AOC L27W551T @ 1280x768?

I know this is a bit of a longshot, but I thought it was worth a try. I've got an AOC L27W551T (which is the branded version of the N27W551T that OcUK sold a while back), and have just come to try and plug a PC with XP MCE into the VGA port on it, and am having some slight difficulties...

    Simple question: SLI v 8800GT/similar?

Thanks guys - I've plumped for the 512Mb Gigabyte 8800GT with the 700Mhz core. Hopefully a decent enough purchase. Thanks for the advice. Cheers, Steve.
