Customers PC marked their carpet who's liable?

I think a criminal investigation for a carpet stain is a stretch. Personally, I would tell them no chance. It’s there equipment and their instructions that caused it.

Thanks for the recommendation, literally just about to begin the tiresome process of cancelling to try and get a reasonable price on renewal.

    Powerline/wifi extender recommendation

I too have found power line adapters to be hit and miss. Trouble is any device plugged into a power socket can affect the signal. I have had better luck sorting my WiFi with multiple access points and a wired backhaul.

New PCIe Gen 5 controller coming to SSDs next year with high IOPS - SM2508

we could definitely do with a lower power gen 5 controller. A lot of The Phison based SSD‘s throttle quick smart without elaborate cooling.

Made a mistake - upgrade or replace Dell?

Definitely this, see if the cpu or gps is overheating and throttling/clocking itself down.

    Ditch AM4 or?

For gaming the 5800x3d is a good performer especially if your not stretching it to much with a super high end GPU. I had the same dilema a few months back and decided to go AM5 in the end. More for future upgradability than the extra performance today.

    Advice with NAS decision

I considered Truenas and Unraid. In the end the flexibility to have mismatched drive sizes in my array in Unraid won out. It’s definitely slower than a more standard RAID setup but I sidestepped that somewhat with a decent sized SSD cache. If I had have had a bunch of matching sized drives...

    Advice with NAS decision

I dumped QNAP for an unraid system and don’t regret it. What done me was a PSU failure which took an age to source a replacement and then not long after Qnap decided my expensive NAS was obsolete and wasn’t getting any more updates, even though it was more powerful than the later models. It was...

Zimaboard - Single board hackable system

I am using mine to host a few dockers such as home assistant, sabnzb, radarr, sonarr & a cloud flare tunnel. They are a neat little thing, passive cooled & low power. They Feel a little expensive for the performance on offer but they are x86 so that’s a win in my book.

*** Sky TV Cancellation & Negotiation Thread ***

Called and cancelled my sky service at the weekend, they done their best to try and get me to stay but couldn't offer me broadband as I would be below their required speed & didn’t really make any concessions on price other than removing things from the package. now I need to get in the loft...

The "Top Gear", Season 24/25/26 thread

No helmet for this was nuts, I thought the BBC would be better at identifying these risks after so many previous injury’s on top gear. After all Freddy is a cricketer not a professional driver, and I don’t mean any disrespect by this comment only that the risks associated with the vehicle...

    Meshed access points?

Some Wi-Fi mesh systems have a dedicated extra radio just for the backhaul, these in theory can do at least one hop without speed degradation. However they still have all the same pitfalls with congestion and interference and are usually mucho more moneys
